Lilliput Possibly shorted? Dead?

Hi guys.

Today I took apart my lilliput 7 inch screen to try and attempt the auto on mod. I looked at my board and at first wasn't positive my board was layed out the same way, so I closed it up and hooked it back up to the computer and came here to check again and print coyote's pic of the board out.

At this point the monitor worked. I then took it apart again to pinpoit the area and proceed with the mod. After a lot of sizing up, I decided I wasn't going to attempt the mod because my iron tip was too big for the job. I've soldered a lot before and I am not new to it but I wasn't comfortable attempting the job with the iron I have.

I then closed up the lilliput and connected it to the monitor.... no power, nothing. I took it all apart checked the connections and powered it with the case off.... it worked no problem. put the pcb boards and wiring back inside the case and powered it again. Worked no problem, proceeded to secure the controller board by the screws and powered it again.
No power.
Took everything apart and repeated, this time I never got power to the board at all.
I thought something got knocked loose by breakout cable where it enters the lilliput housing, when I put it back together, but all the components there are still soldered on tight.
So right now the lilliput is apart and not powering up....

Nothing got knocked loose(that I know of) nothing got broken off, nothing was soldered/desoldered.... possibly could have been shorted, but shouldnt be any more...
Any suggestions or am I SOL?

do the front panel lights come on? for the buttons? im scared because i just did the auto on mod like 10 mins ago

havent tested to see if it works, but i got a 10 dollar radioshack soldering iron just because it had a nice little tip...its the 15watt/30watt adjustable one.

make sure all your ribbon cables are very secure, wiggle them too. i've beat the hell out of my lillyput and it still loves me

the cable to mess around with is the small ribon cable.

The front lights don't come on.

I have a multimeter and to be totally honest I dont know where to run the probes to see what is normal/abnormal.

I'll try messing around with the cables again. It seems like I can't push them in any further but yet when I remove them they still come out what seems like too easily, even though I've locked them in place with the clips.
My soldering iron was from radio shack too... Its a little bigger though because it was for school and work(the tip itself was much larger than the resistor that was supposed to be removed from the auto-on mod).

I guess I'll keep messing with the cables later tonight... Now I have to go to dinner for my birthday.

anyhow, then check to see if the ribbon cable between the buttons and controller is screwed up

when i first took my lilli apart I came across the same thing
that little wacky-*** ribbon cable
took me about 4 or 5 attempts to get it back in place before I finally was able to power up again

you can check your ribbon cable connections with teh multimeter easily...just plug in teh cables, and run your little voltmeter in whatever setting works for yo, i use ohmmeter, and red on 1 end, black on its connector.....if its continuous youll see the needle move, if not then you wont

You guys were right on the money. It was the little cable to the front buttons. I must have put those cables in and out 10 times before I posted here. But after reading that was probably the culprit I went ahead and reseated it and it worked first power on.

I noticed that the way it folds do to the placement, it puts stress on the ribbon at an angle. So I just layed it out so that it was straight and tried to reduce the angular 'stress' while I plugged it in, locked it and closed up the case. All is good.

Sounds like you blew the 1 amp fuse right beside the power slot.

That was my second guess....however he didn't really do anything to it except open it and take it apart...therfore it had to be the little ribon cable... You have to shift it to one side to get it to work properly

Yeah i had thought it was the 1A fuse too. I blew mine.. couldnt find a replacement fuse for it. Non of the electronics shop I went to (limited choices here) had it.

I had to use the huge fuse (like the ones that go into 3-socket adapters) and modified it a little.. then insulate it with hot glue

how do you blow a 1 amp fuse on that sucker without shorting it out? lillys dont use much power at all
