He wants to use the lilliput for the VGA input. Not just the TS.

And with the screen you are looking at (The one I have) you wont be able to do what the last guy said. The controller for the LCD has a ribbon cable that connects to the screen assumably for input right? Well yes that is part-right. The controlls for the motors/gears/microswitches are integrated into both the LCD controller, VIA the ribbon cable that connects to the LCD... and to boot, the buttons to open/close and adjust the angle of the screen, are all soldered and integrated with the screen's housing.

So, unless you can completely design a control circuit that can use new microswitches that opens and closes the screen, you are not going to get this to work.

Believe me, It is no small task.

It seems a hell of alot easier. You can buy them at this link for like $100 and they have DIY instructions on the sitehttp://www.digitalww.com

Yeh, what the other fellas said. I would prefer to keep my VGA input LCD screen. The other ones (svideo or RCA input) arent as good in quality and make it hard to read small fonts.

The motor and gear control is routed through the LCD controller in this unit. I have already disassembled and tried to isolate the LCD motorizing control to no avail.

It has sufficient room inside for a new controller... but getting the motorized function to work without the original controller in there is nearly impossible.

Someone more skilled with PCBs like Armin might be able to do something with it.

On the other hand... the screen's quality and brightness is awesome. I have been using it for my Sentraputer for several months.

Can you post pics on the guts of this thing ? The mechanism should have 1 or 2 DC motors for traverse/flip plus some optical sensors for position sensing. It shouldn't be too hard to build a new controller using a PIC and some motor driver ICs.

When I had it apart... I sanded it down and repainted it with black metallic automotive paint... its in my dash now so... no pics of the guts.

It had 2 motors and no optical sensors.. only microswitches that opened or closed when the unit was in a particular position.

Would be great if this is achievable

It would be good if we could develop an 'open-source' motorised VGA in-dash housing forged from one of these cheapo composite-only units married with a Xenarc/Lilliput.

I share the opinion that getting the motors going again using a microcontroller would be achievable after stripping the original guts out of the housing. I don't think we should get too hung-up on this problem being a deal-breaker.

The only remaining big question for me would be as to whether it's possible to fit Lilliput/Xenarc controller boards into the chosen motorised housing.

I'm in the UK and have noticed a few of these suspiciously low-priced in-dash motorised LCDs on ebay...

ebay link 1

ebay link 2

ebay link 3

All three of these look cosmetically different from the 7" motorised unit sold by mp3playerstore. It'd be interesting to see how many motorised in-dash variants are floating around at the moment.

I certainly want this problem solving enough to put my money where my mouth is and get one of these things to experiment with.

I have actually been toying with this idea as well, and right now i'm in the process of searching for the indash lcd/radio that I can tear apart to start looking for an LCD controller card combo to fit into it, figure if I can find one with a cracked lcd would be the best bet, should go cheap. I figure if I can get at least VGA then move up to touchscreen later I would be happy. But I think the motors would be easy to control for opening and closing with a pic microcontroller.

I'd like to have my Lilliput in one of these too. Can anyone post pics and measurements of the inside of the LCD housing ? Better still, do a test fit of the Lilliput touch panel, LCD screen and controller to see if it fits.

how complicated could are those motorized open/close controllers...

i'd assume its not just open at low V close at high V..... since you also have to deal with when to stop trying to open/close

Motorized Xenarcs are sold, a slimline dvd player can be put underneath it, and you have pretty much the same thing. Why destroy $2000 worth of equipment?

Where is the motorized Xenarc available from? I did not think this was out yet... Stop me before I spend the 400 on the Xenarc screen to mount it in my 701 housing!

The logic is relatively simple:
- determine the position (open/closed...) of mechanism using the sensors (microswitches, optical, whatever),
- power right motor to open/close/tilt
- cut off power when the sensors indicate the desired position has been reached.

Relatively simple to implement in a PIC.

Does that mean we should still hope for a motorized touch vga? I read in another thread where they realised that there is no market for these. Has anyone come across a tutorial for converting a touch vga to an indash motorized unit, and where the products are atually avaiable to buy?

Anyone seen this yet?

http://www.digitalww.com/DWW-7VGT.htm

might solve some of your problems...

Oh yeah, that aussie was asking about a how-to install lilliput to indash unit... Here you go-

http://www.digitalww.com/VGA_Lillipu...ash_HowTo.html

It's... uhm... pretty detailed.
