Good question, but comes with the vague "it depends"
It depends on if the DVD player has a Video Input. I know my portable doesn't have a video in, just video out.
Also depends on if the Laptop has a composite video out. If it doesn't then you would have to have a VGA to Composite scan converter. These boxes are common, but usually kinda steep and require a power adapter.
Now if you were to take the laptop and connect it to a lilliput monitor through the VGA you could use it, also if you have a USB port on the laptop you could get a touchscreen and use the comp that way.
