No good place for Xenarc except for!
I have a 2000 Blazer and there is really no good place for the screen. I am leaving the stock headunit in place and was just wondering if anyone has thought about this. I want to remove my rear view mirror and place my screen there and, I have a small video camera and thought about using that to see behind the car. Would just have to reverse the image. The only problem is integrating it into a front end. I dont know which one to use, Media Car or Media Engine. I want to be able to see the video always almost like Picture in Picture. I have the xenarc with the VGA and Video composite inputs. I dont want to have to switch between the two whenever I wanted to switch songs or see behind me.

A picture of your dash would help so we can give you idea on where to place the screen. About using a camer similar to picture in picture, I don't think any of the current software is capable of doing this.

What is under the a/c and heating controls? If you are willing to do some modification to your dash, you could maybe move the heating controls down and place a indash screen in there place. I believe you can get a conversion kit for the Xenarc from DigitalWW

Moving the HVAC controls is not really an option the tubes and wires are just barely long enough to pull out to disconnect everything. Under the controls is an ash tray and under that there is a junk tray I dont really want to lose any of those. Dont want to put infront of the passenger airbag and on top of the dash would take up too much windshield space.

Any particular reason you want to keep your headunit? If you ditch the headunit you could you a fold-out LCD enclosure for the Xenarc.

I think you'll probably get a lot of unwanted attention from the boys in blue if you stick the monitor up in such a visible spot as the rearview mirror. Even with the backlight at its lowest setting, my Xenarc still puts out a considerable amout of light. If it were up there, it would certainly get noticed. And your truck is going to be much more noticeable since it is higher and more wide open.

I dont want to have to use the carputer everytime I want to listen to music. I am not going to use FM and just wanted to keep the radio for FM and CD's
The computer is going to be used for my 60+ gigs of MP3's and about 30 Divix movies plus guidance and whatever else.

If you're going to play movies going down the road, you definitely don't want it up there. In-car entertainment systems have been getting a lot of attention from the cops and in the media lately, since a few morons have wrecked while watching movies. Some have even been arrested for having porn playing in their vehicle because it was visible to other people going down the road.

well the movies are really for my kid (mostly disney) I have a second smaller screen for the headrest. I dont want trouble from the cops just dont really have a good place to put it. If i was going to get rid of the headunit My screen would fit like a dream with very little work. I was just thinking of kind of like a screensaver. It would default after like 5 sec of inactivity and would display the rearview. When I tap the screen it would take me back to the front end. You think the cops would give me a prob with the screen up there if it was displaying what the rearview would?

My wife has a 2000 Blazer too. After my carputer is done I plan on doing one for her. For her screen I'm going to mount it on a gooseneck.

That was firggin awesome
BUT
I dont think the wife would like me hacking up the dash that much and when I get rid of the car it would almost be easier to let the system go with the car. And I thought about a gooseneck but i would think the passenger would always be hitting it with their knees.
the floor board on that side is already messed up enough no need to add more confusion.

second page top. It states that it can be used for viewing a videocamera if it aids in drivers view around the car (Rear and Sides). This isnt for chicago but i would imagine that it is probably the same. I will have to check into that.
