Oh and if I was vague I meant power them up without an actual laptop and provide signal from a carputer.... RCA, S-Video, Or Whatever....

theres a simple answer here

Yes you can

but why do you want to ? and how good are your soldering skills, not to mention electronics ability ?

to make a laptop screen work you need a controller for it (LVDS) now a lot of mobos actually have this in place but this is intended for very very few screens

so you need to build a VGA convertor and then get the timings (horizontal and otherwise correct)

the time and effort spent are going to be huge, just buy a screen with dedicated vga in / rca in and save yourself the effort and stress

i will have to agree that.
even though you can get LCD panel at just about any size you want, getting a matching LVDS transmitter/receiver is almost impossibility.

I have VIA EPIA TC board, trying to match the specification was a near impossibility.

if you know korean, u get go read www.1din.net. they use LVDS screens.

would there be any way to use something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...707167729&rd=1 and ge the matching screen ?? The thing is, I just want a large clear, easy to read screen without spending a fortune.... I just cannot see browsing or using a computer on a 7" LCD.... Maybe it's not as bad as I think

ehh now looking at it forget it.... I'm considering buying a 13" LCD Panel monitor made for a home PC, just taking the case off of it and molding it to my console.... I think that will work better..... I have VERY tinted windows and a large vinyl sunblock stripe across my windshield it's pretty dark in my truck even under full sun, would 200 CD be enough ??

A 7" has more then enough screen space to provide all the functions that you shoudl be doing while driving. Carputers should never be used like tradional computers while driving, you should never need to do traditional web browsing while driving. Anything that needs to display so much information as to make the text unreadably small on a 7" really shouldn't be done just as much for the cognitive distractions caused by it as the visual ones.

yes, mom. An automobile is not a toy!!

Actually, he's right, an 7" does the trick. An 8.4" or 9.4" would prbably be perfect, imo just for a bigger interface, i have big fingers.
