LCD for modded xbox in Acura

ok guys first time posting, long time reader. i have a x-tra modded xbox and want to put that in my car. I need a in-dash monitor that fits in the acura stock deck area, i think the width is 7 in. The monitor will sit in the top slot and my deck right below it, given i have to do some custom work to get that to hold. ?'s are what monitor's are good? specs to watch for? i am kinda on a budget so nothing about 200-250 range. any info would be awesome!!

What model Acura do you have?, I have an RSX and I just ordered a xenarc to replace my HU. I measured it and I know it will fit for me, and I think I can get a slotless dvd drive vertical on the side if I fab it.

their are two people I have seen put a monitor in an rsx this way lopan(lilliput i believe) on this forum and ctd something(xenarc) on clubrsx.com

EDIT: i didnt see that you are keeping a HU underneath it. in this case you could get a din sized motorized lcd from circuit city or some local audio shop. If you want touchscreen I saw some solution for the same 1 din unit and someone put a xenarc inside it(non motorized)

I have a 95 GS. ok, i have a pioneer premier deck that i plan on keeping, it has an aux out also. so the audio from the xbox would run into that and the video signal straight into the monitor. then i am going to route a controller port from the xbox to the dash and plug in the ir remote plug and use the remote of the xbox in xbox media center to play my movies and songs. Any ideas for a monitor?

You can get a pull-out enclosure for the Xenarc I believe.

modularbeing - there are a few of us w/ RSXs that have LCD in the dash.. although I think i'm the only one who has if glassed into the dash panel. Unless you're gonna go for a smaller screen i dont think the dvd drive will fit unless you took out the hazard switch.. I can take a picture of mine (still painting it) with my lilliput if you want. but it would be a tight fit to get it in there..
I think I'm gonna try to glass my slim-dvd into the panel underneath the radio panel (where the 12v socket is) it should be interesting....

khoval83 - as far as your options you can get the Xenarc pull-out, or do a lilliput pull-out (i think they are cheaper then the xenarcs, but make sure its been a while sicnce i've looked at prices) but if your just gonna use this for video (no need for touchscreen controls) i think there were a few others out there you could use. Farenheit i've heard have good lcds and someare DIN sized fold-outs.

Another option is to use LCD visors? cuz i doubt you'llbe playing and driving so that could be an option.. ebay usually has a pair of 7"lcd visors for like $200-300 so you could end up splitting the video signal and have a screen for both driver and passenger..
thats all i got for now...

forgot to mention digitalww.com has some of the items for pull-out lcds and decent pricing.. i got my 2nd lcd bezel from them so i could hack it apart into my dash.

if you could take a picture I'd love to see it. I am still waiting on my monitor but I want to fit it in without the original casing and I was hoping it might provide me with enough room to get the cd rom on the or angle it maybe....If I cant fit it in there I was thinking about possibly right above the cig lighter like yourself, that seems like the only other good area....

just wanted to let you know i didnt forget, i'll take the picture tonight. i made a stupid mistake and have to re-sand and paint again... i hate it when i cant get the texture right....

but i'll post up tonight with whats done so far.. i'm hoping to create a DIY for making the screen and where the other stuff i'm putting into the car

looks nice, im planning on doing a similar mount when I get some time to do it. I think I am going to take out the hazard button and put a multi function knob in there from griffin technologies.

btw, how are you holding the lcd flush against the dash piece?

haha that was my thought originally...put the Powermate there and move the hazard to the 12v socket underneath.... but the knob ends up being too far from the driver and it almost uncorfortable for quick use w/o looking at it..

haha competition?? I've had mine in my car for a while now.. just gradually making upgrades and perfecting it the way i want it..

I can get you dimensions of the powermate when I get home... its acutally a little too big to fit through the Hazards switch... lol..been there/tried that.. you'd have to dremel it out a little...

oh forgot to answer your ? Modularbeing...

What i did was take soche dash kit cut it up and fiberglass the front bezel of the lilliput there.. so when i'm done i'll reinstall the lcd into the housing and it should sit perfectly flush... any other questions just hit me up....... also I'll upload the other pics i have of how i put the lilliput housing into the scoche dash kit...that'll be later tonight after i get off work since the pics are at my home PC..

also to answer yer question, i have my entire lilliput housing secured to the scoche faceplate by 4 long screws and 2 strips of bendable copper strip. i think the strip is supposed to be used to wrap hvac ducting. there just happens to be 4 holes on the faceplate to mount it on. had to cut a notch on one of the strips to allow for the A/V connector that looks like a USB hole.
