I wanted to bring this thread back on topic (I think that's a first for me) and give an update.
I have been in talks with Mpattonm and have agreed to send Via a Lilliput screen of mine that i had ready to go in my stock sun visor.
I will be sending it this weekend. I will keep this thread updated with any further developments.
Via is confident that they will be able to us get 800x480 out of the via m10k and with the lilliput screen. The goal obviously would be to get the onboard graphics card to output 800x480 and the lilliput monitor to read the resolution as 800x480 (instead of the others that have been reported)
There is no garuntee's here but we are keeping our fingers crossed. I will let you guys know if we succeed or fail.

thanks for the info, is it safe to say though that if they get this working on the lilli it can work on the Xenarc?

I would say yes. You already have timing settings for the Xenarc which we do not have for the lilliput. I hope they will be able to suggest some settings for us. They are pretty confident about being able to produce 800x480 with the Via M10k. They think think that pannel is the what needs to be adjusted.
Who knows this may not work at all and i may get my lilliput back in peices but it's worth a shot

Wow!!!
12 pages of reading and still no definitive answer on how to get the holy grail of resolution.
Can anyone tell me why the advanced timing button (like the one below) is greyed out on my computer?

I'll be surprised if the answer is not already in this thread, but it means your graphics card does not support advanced/custom timings.
