Update from Jimmy @ Xenarc (after a nudge for an update):

Quote:
Hi,

Two VIA reps just visited us this week. The information that I got is that
they are working on it.

Regards,

Jimmy Hu

Great news - if they bother to visit Xenarc they are obviously taking it seriously!

Pity they don't answer our emails! Maybe we're emailing the wrong people!

Im not holding my breath.. Already working on a AMD2400 ATX board for the carputer.. Nvida 440 for graphics.. Should have no messing around issues.. Just have to use a bit more space for the PC.

I however hope that they do get this done.. I know many would be very happy.. and if they do get this done... Email them with praises and compliments...

Make sure you post in the Via Arena forums about your desire for this too

The more people and places they hear about this issue the more visibility it will have, and as someone posted earlier there is a thread going on in the viaareana.com forums about this too:

http://forums.viaarena.com/messagevi...VIEWTMP=Linear

So, head over to the Via forums and post your comments there too.

I've just finished the last of my hardware purchases and have got my car PC up and going (not a clean install yet, but getting there..) and last week I sent this email to VIA:

Quote:
Dear Support Team,

I have just purchased a MII-12000 motherboard, and intend to use it as
the base for my CarPC. I have made the purchase knowing that there are
a couple of shortcomings which I can work around, but hope that Via
Technologies will be able to provide updates to their product line to
solve primarily these two issues:

1. I am using a Xenarc 7" touchscreen LCD, which has a native
resolution of 800x480, which is not a natively supported resolution of
the onboard video card. Is there the possibilty of seeing a BIOS and
video driver update to provide support for this resolution?

2. There has also been a lot of activity on various forums about
booting off the onboard compact flash reader, and it seems that
support is limited to only linux and WinCE. Is there any update on
being able to boot WinXP? Or even being able to boot a third party
boot loader which can in turn load XP??

Looking forward to your response,

Regards,

Mark

After following a few threads on these forums, I wasn't really expecting a response back, but low and behold, I found this email in my inbox this morning:

Quote:
Hi Mark,

1. EPIA MII does not support 16:9 resolution currently. However, our
team in Taiwan is looking at releasing a BIOS for such support.

2. Award BIOS does not support booting from compact flash, so you might
need to flash VIA's own proprietary BIOS. You can download it from VIA
Arena web site. Please note that this BIOS is hardware specific and
supports only limited OS (WinCE and Embedded Linux). We would suggest
you to look for IDE to Compact Flash converter for more flexible
hardware as well as software support.

Best Regards,
VEPD Technical Support

Great news Only problem is that it's NOT a 16:9 resolution, it's a 15:9 (or 5:3) resolution...hopefully they'll get that right soon enough!

But it seems good that it is being looked at!
