lol..
well the card i am using is this exact card http://www.pny.com/products/verto/ma...am/5500pci.asp

I had posted how i did it earlier in the thread...but antimater i have seen many of your threads and i have been watchin your thread on your dash...it suks about the paint..i am hoping to convince my friend who owns a 2000 cougar to do it to his car. im justin waitin for u to be done so i can show him the picture to inspire him....anyways u seem chill so instead of goin back threw the thread here u go

the card i linked to above has the abilty to set custom resolutions with the nvidia display utility...all i had to do was go to add custom resolution in the utilty, type in 800x480 64hertz ...hit apply and it is done...the xenarc then displays 800x480 64hertz on the OSD...in my earlier post i had mentioned it was on my home comp but it also officially works on the m1000 also as i have it hooked up right now

I was running at 800x600 which i thought looked good in media car but once i saw it in 800x480 it looked alot better...now earlier i got trashed as many people due when there componets are pricey but as i see it the screen is what u look at every day there is no reason to skimp out on it...If you are going to spend $400 on a screen whats the point if it dosnt display properly...
also another reason ofcourse is that frodoplayer is 800X480 that alone is a good reason to pawn your gf jewelry for a video card...

Cool man... thanks for the heads up, I own a Lilliput so i wonder if it would work for that.

About the cougar check out this thread. A couple buddies Savante, and TheSaint also own cougars and are working on their dash. You might be confusing me with Savante.

Thanks though for repeating the information.

BTW where did you buy it and how much did you pay?

I wonder what cheap low-power-consumption video cards can also get the output right?

Yea.. i thought your were talking about savante. I have my dash done... I was the first cougar on this forum that did it.

Frys is the way to go. You wouldn't belive (well you might, it sounds like you know the frys routine) what i have taken back and how much time has passed and they still accepted the return

I live in Nor Cal, near monterey

This makes you the first person I've heard of to actually get a Xenarc to report 800x480. Without powerstrip is even more impressive! Thanks for the info. I don't think $100 is too much for a video card that will actually utilise the Xenarc's native res.

Just got my Xenarc 700TSV yesterday, and tried it out with my M10000 which is sitting in a Travla C134 case (no room for any video cards).

After trying all 3 suggested solutions (848x480, 800x600, and 1280x768), I've decided that for me 800x600 will work out ok... not great, but ok.

848x480 simply looks terrible, you really notice the horizontal pixel skipping.

1280x768 was actually kind of nice, but even after scaling up the icons and font, there are still plenty of apps/installers/etc, which will be really hard to read. Also, I don't like the waste of fill-rate (must be the programmer in me).

800x600 is squished, of course, but I guess I can use media-engine to play around with the aspect ratio (hopefully also for movie playback).

The via driver situation is a bit frustrating... all the hardware supports 800x480, so do their CE drivers, just not the XP drivers. It seems that you are able to get a glimpse at how good 800x480 'would' look (by having the 800x600 mode running at 60hz, which cuts off the top and bottom of the display).

Ayway, all this has probably already been discussed

How about Linux

Hey...
Has anyone tried using the XFree Server with non standard modlines to get 800x480 working? I'm just curious if the onboard video's fault is at the driver level or the hardware level...

I'll be doing a *lot* of testing with this once I get all my hardware. Xenarc monitor should be on its way, I'm just trying to decide on a case to buy now before I get the motherboard.

This might not be anytign at all, but has anyone tried using a program called powerstrip? I used(and still do) on my htpc which runs to my 26" widescreen hdtv. It allowed me to find a few resolutions that were 16:9 and worked on my tv. I think it might be able to help some of you guys out, try adding in 800x480 and see if it adds it, if it does try screwing around with some of the other settings. Good luck I'm sure I'll be here all freaking out once I get my lcd this week.

Several times, within this thread even, the use of Powerstrip has been discussed. I hate to be a jackass, but
