You need a lcd controller that is compatible.
Price range $100-$350
I would save myself the time, money, and mental anguish and buy a complete solution.

But that's a passive reaction, not an active one

Okay well I may not be understanding this correctly. I just took a Laptop LCD out of my 410CS toshiba, Isn't the VGA card the same as the Controller? It has cables going from the LCD screen to a card that plugs into the laptop motherboard, All my searching tells me this is the VGA card, So if i could find the pinouts couldn't I just run a VGA signal to this card? Any input is appreciated. *UNDERSTOOD NOW THANKS*

In a word: no. Nice try though . Your laptop's graphics card has the LCD controller integrated in it. No point in the laptop converting the graphics to an analogue signal (the standard VGA signal) and having a controller integrated into the screen to convert it back.

one point about laptop screens is that alot of laptop screens are only 150-200 nit's, meaning dim & washed out daytime bad enough to be unuseable. it would suck to buy an expensive controller because you already have the screen, & then find out that it isn't bright enough to use during the day. if the laptop works, I would suggest you take it in the car & see how it works daytime with the sun up strong before you make a final decission on whether it's worth doing or not.
in the past if you wanted a lcd in your car the laptop screen with controller was your only option, but today for a little more than the cost of only the controller you could get a complete monitor for your car, that fact alone has probably increased the amount of people installing pc's in there car more than any other factor....sure stuff like the opus & this bulletin board also help by making it easier, but the complete screens that are available today for resonable prices are to me the thing that will finally bring the carputer to the masses...
