What ppl have to say about desktop screens
Hey everyone
Plz let me know why i should NOT put a desktop screen in my car.
Mounting/wiring it has been figured out so that is not a issue.
Things i have to concider, i live in canada so i will have to go thru winter.
I would have the longest extended warranty
Thanks

That is the same monitor I use, MAG 14". I spliced the power cable into power from the DC-DC PS. Mine is not mounted though...

check out how meny NITS the screen output, tried a 14 inch in my van it had about 160 i think. daytime could not see it unless it was pointed strate to me,with sunny day totaly unviewable. a night it would light up the whole inside of my van so i needed to turn off when driving.also check out the viewing angle, dont be cheep buy a screen disigned for outdoor use.
sorry didnt mean to call you cheep, just dont want you to speed time/money on something that probably you will not enjoy.

Other issues:
They get much hotter than the small screens.
They aren't designed to handle as much vibration. If not mounted properly, it WILL crap out on you. Probably need to be molded into the dash, not on an arm or something.

I think that was the best argument on 15", don't mean to flame anyone but heat is not a problem, power consumption is defenetly not a problem, the screen craping out because my subs are shaking the panels off my car is might be a problem but not imidately if i buy a extended warranty for it. If it realy becomes a problem i will take it out and replace it with the elcheapo tiny screens that costs a fortune and break all the time . Glare won't be a problem either cause i will not use the screen while driving (cause it would be right in my face and i won't be able to see where i'm going). My primary use of the carPC is tunes, movies, games, maybe wireless internet. I won't be putting nav. on it cause i realy don't need it.
