I am planning on putting a carputer in my Hummer H1 my question is i dont have alot of space to mold a screen into the dash and i want to keep everything stock looking. is there a motorized touch screen lcd monitor??
can a kenwood or clarion touch screen cd player be used for the monitor for the carputer?
thanks

Can't you fit a bloomin home cinema in one of those things!
I think htere are a few motorised ones on the way from asia - have seen a few threads. Dunno about using the branded ones you mentioned but i would doubt they have VGA although some people have used SVideo ok but you would need to interface the touchscreen tot he PC via USB or serial and i have no idea if they support this (but doubt it). Why don't you post some pics of your interior and we'll see if we can give you some suggestions about placement. Get creative and make a mockup screen and try it around your interior. You could probably get away with making a bolt on enclosure or summit which wouldnt ruin your dash. There is also another H1 on here with a carpc.
Good luck with the project
Andy

yeah i looked at the other h1's set up. Im looking for a clean sleek look. If i would find somewhere else to move my ac controls i would have hte perfect place for one but there really isnt a better place for them.
I will take some more interior pics and post them later.
I did see the post on a complete pc system that folds out from korea but it was all in korean from what i understand it looks like lots people are trying to get one

Anyone who has enough money to buy one of those, and does, should be shot. Why the hell would you want a hummer? It is not an ATV, its hogs gas, and normal people laugh at you for being so stupid and buying one. Since you appear to be a complete computer idiot, I think it would be best to tell you that the name brand motorized screens are crap because they are A/V and not VGA/DVI therefore, you wont be able to see ****. The asian touch screens, tend not to work very well, if they even ship you one, and just not rip you off totally. Wait for a motorized from www.digitalww.com.

Damn those are some harsh words. All i gots to say his, the H1 is sweet, cant say the same about the H2. Good luck to you with the project. There is plenty of space in the H1, you could put multiple screens :-). Get some more shots of the interior, maybe the form the backseat and from the drivers seat.

I agree with them, if you want motorized, it will be only a matter of time till it's available.

Thats a bit hash dude! Yeah i think huge cars that drink petrol are crazy and stupid and a damn waste of natural resources but you might wanna bite your lip before making ocmments like that. At the end of the day do you really need the engine in that big yank tank you have (or is it the Lancer as you seem to have 2 cars listed - or do you have both in which case why do you need 2 cars????). And as for calling someone a complete computer idiot he may just not have much idea about screens or indeed computers but at least he wants to learn!

Xenarc will be releasing their motorized VGA touchscreen in January. Whether or not they meet that date remains to be seen. May want to wait for it. Besides, the planning phase of a carputer is lengthy.

I finally found a connection who says he can supply me with Motorized indash touchscreens (VGA obviously)
Please give me a month to have that guy bring them to US, and start distributing...
BTW:These screens will also come with all of my retail carputer packages.
each is expected to be $400

yeah, i live nearby where biohazard lives, and my friend has a military hummer that was purchased for 20g's, should i borrow the humvee, track this biohazard down, and do a bit of urban offroading, perhaps over his dodge r/t?
EDIT: not only will i crush his little baby dodge, but i will also do a quick oil change on his eco-sensitive property.
EDIT2: JOKING
