Power Source for Xenarc
Hey guys,
Just wondering where are you guys getting your power from for the monitor. I have my Opus in the trunk so is there a better place to get power? Thanks.

Regulated source from the battery.

Other than using the PC's power supply you can use your car's power. There's are problems doing it this way, and you may shorten the life of your screen. See my reply about using a timed relay here:

For the Xenarc, there is no need to regulate the power source. I have my Xenarc directly connectd to my Accessory lead so whenever I turn on the car, it turns on as well. Been doing this for 6 months no without any issues.

Yeah, that regulator's nice, but $$ and hard to get locally unless you get lucky. Instead of that, and the 7812, I picked up a regulated laptop dc/dc convertor. It's already got the correct sized barrel power connector for the screen and I just hardwired it into my acc lead. I wouldn't go unregulated to the screen no matter what people tell me here.

Run a cable from the Opus, it's going to give you the best input. The Xenarc does have internal regulation (11-24V) but I prefer giving it a constant 12V (as you car can drop below 11V with the engine off or during cranking)

Not necessarily, if your run will be >4' then there's more likely a chance of picking up interference on the power line. Your best bet then is to use a filter to clean up the power signal. My Xenarc is running perfectly hooked to the regulated power cord attached to my acc line. In fact, I dare say it's a cleaner picture because of the shorter run and the fact that the power cord has a built-in filter.
