Problem with Lilliput picture

Hope someone can help.

I have my Lilliput set up in the car, linked to my Dell Laptop in the boot. Since I have linked them both up, the picture being displayed from the Lilliput isn't very crisp.

In windows its bearable, however when I run MediaEngine, the picture isn't too crisp and the lettering on the track names are somewhat shadowed. They are definitely not shadowed when I view MediaEngine through the screen on my laptop Even the background image on MediaEngine is shadowed.

I don't have any drivers installed for the Lilliput on my laptop, except for the TouchScreen feature. Can I obtain specific Lilliput monitor drivers to download?

Does anyone know what might be up? and how I could solve these problems.

there really isnt any special drivers for the actual monitor, it just uses default monitor. Is the monitor new?

I've had it just over a year. Its been fine but I've had to take some of the dash off, and when I've put it back in, the monitor's picture doesn't seem as crisp.

After having a bit browse on the web, it appears that shadowing can be caused by a loose cable connection so it might be worth me checking the connectors. Can the VGA connector coming out of the Lilliput be replaced? as this might have become damaged due to me often disconnecting and removing the screen for security reasons.

does yours have the 8pin minidin connector? some people have just tried sqeezing it. Other than that, mine got blurry when the ribbon cable inside was loose.

Yeh, mine has the 8pin minidin connector. Whereabouts have they squeezed? is it just before the lead goes into the screen?

Also, the screen fell off the stand it was on - do you think this might have caused any damage? It only dropped about 5 inches from its position onto the centre console. But I suppose its possible.

You realize that the native res for the Lilli is 800x480, right?

If you try to display 786,432 pixels on a monitor that only has 384,000 it's not going to look very good.

Are you using a long monitor cable? Can you try a shorter one?

I never realised that the native res was 800x480. I shall try that.

It has also been pointed out to me that the screens slightly shadow when its cold in the mornings. Although I'm sure when its been warm, the shadows still appear

I'm using a 5m VGA extension cable at the moment. I could possibly use a shorter one if I moved the laptop to the front of the car.

If you can't get 800x480, then 800x600 is the next best thing.

You don't notice the "squashing" in the vertical plane as much as you would in the horizontal plane (trying to squash 1024 pixels into 800)

Cool, I'll try that. I believe that MedaiEngine is set to 800x480 though, and windows 1024 x 768.

So does the "squashing" cause the shadowing? or is this something totally different?

It does sound like the "shadowing" is because the picture isn't sharp enough. Give it a try running the display at 800x480 (or 800x600) and see what happens If that doesn't get rid of this "shadowing" you're experiencing, try to get a picture of it and let us see it

Cool. I'll try it at 800x480 and then 800x600 when I get out of work tonight. If not, I'll do my best to get a picture of it

Really appreciate all this help. Thanks.
