Xenarc Touchscreen powerfeed. Converting to selfpowered?

Hi there

If seems the Xenarc touchscreen isnt self powered and only comes on after the screen itself has had power given to it. Is there any way of making the touchscreen selfpowered off the USB as i have my screen turn off HARD when i pull my keyout, but my computer stays on until the opus turns it off, so the computer thinks ive pulled the touchscreen usb out. WHen it comes back on i get a Duuuuu-daaaaaa as if ive pulled it back in again (which in effect i have as i turn my screen on) and it messes up any visulisation i have running.

How can i rewire the touchscreen controller so its in effect seperate from the Xenarcs power feed.

cheers

I think it may solve all your problems if you ran the Xenarc main power off the computer 12 volt rail. That way the screen will go on/off when the computer goes on/off and you won't have the issue of the USB re-initializing everytime you shut your screen on/off.

Anyways - this is a very good question and I would like to know the answer myself.

I run my xenarc of the 12v rail, which is controled by an Opus.

Yes i was going or am going to do that if i cannot find a decent solution to this problem. I have also e-mailed xenarc support about it to see if they can shed any light on the subject.

Basically the reason i dont want to do this is after a suspend when its resuming the computer the screen displays an image with a blinking line top left while to comes back from standby which is some wierd res like 720x480 or summink, then when it actually loads the screen like media engine, it then has to readjust to 800x600.

At present i have and would like it to work with my Navone tuen on delay unit have have the amps hooked to. That way the amps come on after the sondcard has initialized and is playign sound (not a problem) and the screen when the image has stabalised at 800x600. It loooks and acts much better that way

just bloody USB being a pain in the rear

Some dude on here must have a solution. Maybe just a resolder with some wire.....

Be interested to know if the screen is actually 'POWERED' off the xenarcs 12v in (not likely) or its just acting like a relay to the usb's power (likely)

Why not try taking it aparat and snoooping around ? The touch screen controller will most likely be a separate board somewhere. Try to see where it gets its power feed from

Wayyyyyyyyyyyyy.............. fixed it........

I bypassed the 20pin 'combo' connector and soldered up a USB lead and found a little PCB connector same as is used on the Touchscreen USB controller board. Hooked it up and it works a treat. Ill post pics tomorrow. Xenarc support gave me some inspiration after i e-mailed them. I havnt even thought of bypassing the Xenarc included wire.

all good

I couldn't understand what you did very well.

The Xenarc TS USB Board has 2 different connectors attached to it; one on either side of the board. One of the cable is the a ribbon-connector that I would assume goes directly to the touchscreen. The other connector, a 4-pin connector, connectsattached the TS USB board to the Xenarc 20-pin cable board.

Are you saying to completely bypass the 20-pin Xenarc cable board and wire up your own USB cable that would attach directly to the computer. This would basically render the USB cable on the Xenarc cable, useless.

Doing this would add an extra cable to connect to the Xenarc, correct?Instead of having just the Xenarc video/usb combo and power cable coming out of the back, you would have the Xenarc video/usb combo cable, the power cable and the newly hooked up Xenarc USB cable?

Is this right, or am I wrong? Thanks!

Here's a pic of my Xenarc 8" with TS. The 7" is probably the same. The touchscreen plugs into the controller board at top with a ribbon cable. Then a 4 wire cable runs out and down to to the board that hosts the 20 pin connector.

Sounds like what live2themaxuk did was unplug the little 4 wire cable plug from the board with the 20 pin connector on it and found a companion socket for for the 4 wire cable and patched that into a USB cable. Now the touchscreen is acts completely separate from the monitor, just like a USB mouse or GPS would. Turning the Xenarc on or off makes no difference to the power to the touchscreen anymore.

Is the correct answer!
