Tview power on issue

I've read through all the threads I could find quite extensively and I was unable to find an answer so if anyone could help it would be much appretiated.

It may partally a cold weather issue, but I can't tell because my install is a week old, and it's been getting colder (minnesota resident here). Basicly it won't power on at all if it sits for more than a few hours in the cold or at all.. not sure so I don't have a true control environment but bear with me. The only way I've found to get it to work is if I unplug the power for it and replug it in .. just real quick.. and then I hit the power button and it comes up.

It's being powered off of the radio's power and it's switched, so it comes on with the ignition, it shuts off nice though.

I've been trying to figure out what problem could be fixed by unplugging it and the only thing I can think of is if it's getting some power leaked into it while sitting and the unplugging of it drains it out somehow, like capasitors are getting charged ect.

It did work once this week in the morning fine, so go figure.

I've thought of using the power from the PSU, which may end up being the way to go, I just don't want to run MORE wires back. that's what I get for running a server board for my system :-)

well I'm still new to this, so be gentle.

Oh yeah my screen is a cheap Tview VGA with touchscreen...I like it a lot except for this issue.

I have the same screen as you... and I dont have that issue... but I do ocasionally have issues where it wont show the VGA input correctly.. I just has a sweeping effect from top to bottom.. in a blue to white fade thing... its hard to describe...

but if I disconnect power to it.. and reconnect power it works fine...

Yeah I know that.. I actually looked closely.. and there are asian language glyphs in it.. I'm almsot wonderinf there is some sort of hard coded image in a ROM on it or something.. I haven't had it happen in a long time. not since I was testing and installing software and getting hardware working.

Do you live in a cold climate?.. I'm almost wonderinf if Cold has something to do with it.

I'm gonna try and connect it directly to the PSU.. or the +12v wire anyway, common grounds should be ok..

I'm also wondering if that lilliput auto power on ahck could work with this..

i got the same one i thught i got hacked the first time i saw that dude haha, here in cali its in the 40s not to cold but to make mine power on i have to hold the power button for 2-10 seconds till the led lights up.

I'll have to give that a try...

I talked to a friend of mine last night and he was telling me that some autos will switch the +12v line to -12v as opposed to 0v .. and that could be causeing some issues.. so I have some things to go on..

I parked in the garage last night and it stayed at 45 degrees or so.. at least that's what the temp gauge said on the roof thingy here.. well you know.

ok.. well I've tried a few things..

1) switching my 12v line to the 12v line off the ITPS , this solution works great because then the screen stays on even if the ignition is off.. so you can see it shutting down.. but then it leaves the nasty stock blue sitting there till ITPS cuts power. However the problem here lies that the ITPS cannot supply power for over 15 minutes or so.. it just can't handel delivering that much juice I guess.

2) ran the 12v to my ACC wire for my radio, this is what I did before and only this time I added the diode on the line, so as to isolate any reverse voltage.. however my problem still exists, even after sitting the garage at over 40 degrees or so, above specs.

So I would anyone elses thoughts.. one difference I do notice is that when I run option 1, it takes one push of the power button, using option 2 it takes 2 pushes, of course after the unplug and replug in. I can only surmise that there must be a trickle of power going into the unit that is messing it up.

I'm thinking maybe try getting a voltage regulator from radio shack and using that on it.. so it will only give it 12 or nothing .. any thoughts.

What kind of car is it in? Your friend is right, some vehicles on the acc line do switch to ground when off, yet some other vehicles (mainly european vehicles) switch to around 3 - 5 volts. This could be what is locking your screen up.

Here is an idea, use a relay to turn your screen on and off, this way, when it is off, you know for sure it is not getting any voltage (pos or neg). If you need a wiring diagram just let me know and I will try and walk you through it. We used to do this with cd players that had the same problem on the acc side, and it worked great.

just looked at your profile and saw it is an exploder, I haven't had this problem with fords before, but still might be worth a try...

actually before I read your replay I did just that.. it only made sense.. and I supose I could check my wiring again.. I have been known to not do it right..

but with it installed correctly I hope.. the problem still remains..

I have noticed however.. and I just tested this.. if I turn the key the other way.. to the accessory side or whatever.. it powers up "almost" fine.. takes 2 hits on the power button.. but I'll give it that.. and this was just now it sitting in -4 F weather for 3 or 4 hours..

it was recently in -25 f weather for over night.. still same problems.. dark lcd till it warmed up though.. but now my SMART monitoring system says the HD is gonna die soon..

so for a recap we have had or currently have on the +12v line a diode and a relay .. that hooks up to the accessory line.. and we tried a voltage regulator.. but that didn't work out well.. it wouldn't even work while running.. just 1/2 way turned on..

ok so I'm thinking it's a voltage spike.. I've though about running my relay on wire to the +12v line of my ITPS .. so the relay doesn't open untill the ITPS turns on..

any thoughts.. also my explorer doesn't explode much anymore.. just last week infact it decided it liked the 4x4 function so well it's stuck there.. getting it fixed tomarrow.. uh.

I started havingt the same issues... and it does seem to be related to cold... since I only get them when my truck was outside overnight...

and yes I usually just cut the power to the screen and then give it power again.. and voila it works fine...

weird...
