Wink cant get Gf4 mx440 working with M10000 **800x480 and IT WORKS **

***EDIT***
Well it appears i didnt have enough patience, a strange thing was happening when i was playing with the display properties, the application was showing three different screens!

Display #1 was the onboard S3 video display display #2 which is what i was trying to get to work was actually the S-Video output!!!! and display #3 was the VGA out. as soon as i extended the windows desktop to display #3 everything worked!!! i then proceded to make it the primary display, and disabled the s3 from there.

and best of ALL!! 800x480 WORKS!!!!! and i tried it with the lilliput and it WORKS!!!! all i had to do was go to the advanced tab and then type in the custom resolution somewhere.. i forgot exactly but its VERY straight forward!!!

so for anyone that has an m10000 and wants 800x480 just spend $33 and quit holding your breath for VIA to come out with drivers...it will never happen VIA sux!

GO nVidia!!!! YAY

ok im done.

***EDIT***

Well since we all gave up on making the onboard S3 video card output 800x480 i spent 33 bux on a PCI version of a Gf4 MX440 64Mb card by assylum bfg.

Here is my problem.. i cant get the damnt card to show anything in windows!!! i want to know if my card is hosed or if the m10000 mother board doesnt support video cards or if im just plain missing something..

Here is what is going on. I installed the card and plugged in the monitor to the Gf4 card i turned the pc on and i instantly saw the POST process on my monitor so i figured great the card WORKS! but right after it does the quick POST and after you see the "Windows XP" screen with the lil blue scroll bars on the bottom the screen went black... im thinking WTF??? it just stayed black.. then i heard music playing so i UNPLUGGED the monitor and plugged it in to the S3 onboard card and i had a picture again..

next.. i loaded the drivers that came with the card... and i tried the process again.. same thing happened..

next i downloaded the latest drivers from nVidia... and tried again.. same thing..

next i looked in the bios and i cant see a way to disable the onboard graphics!!!!! it has a selection on weather i preffer PCI video or AGP.. (WTF?? this mother board doesnt even HAVE AGP!!!.... stupid VIA!!! ) again nothing worked in bios for me.. but maybe im missing something.

next i went to the device manager and i made sure that my card was installed and all was working properly..

i tried messing with display options and when i made the Gf4 card my primary display i almost lost the ability to control my computer.. all my icons dissapeared and my s3 display had a blank desktop .. luckily it was still a desktop so i was able to drag the display options screen (blindly) from the imaginary desktop and edit the options to what they were previously... the whole time the Gf4 never showed anything under windows.. only during POST.

lastly i tried disabling the S3 graphics card through device manager.. upon reboot i had NO DISPLAY!!! neither card would show me anything!!!! i was freaking out! so i removed the Gf4 card and booted again this time the S3 card was showing stuff on the display again.

i dont know what to do anymore...this isnt the first video card i instal and im out of ideas!!! please some one help me!!!

TIA,

Lev

lol...well if there isn't an AGP slot doesn't mean that the AGP bus isn't there...M10K has an AGP 8X interface which is occupied by the on-board graphics.

make PCI your primary display through BIOS and try to boot using the XP CD. If you notice that the XP setup sequence is working then I guess that the reason you cannot boot with the GF is a stubborn S3 driver...

A clean XP install may be required...

I have put sound cards and video cards on motherboards with onboard sound and video. I have always been able to disable the onboard stuff with the BIOS setup. I have not put a video card on my board yet, but will in a couple weeks.

Good to hear that Lilliputs will do 800x480! I wish my case had room for a video card.

Open the OSD and go to the Monitor settings, I believe it's the second one. There is an info option in this menu, it will display the current resolution and refresh rate.

Exactly... The trick isn't getting the the nvidia card to display custom resolutions (all of the newer ones should do this already) the trick is getting the lilliput's On Screen Display to report the correct resolution 800x480.

Would you please take a few shots of how it looks because even if the lilliput does not display the correct resolution it may look good enough but i would like to see picture if it.

i checked the OSD and it reported 848x480 but 800x480 output looks really good.. i changed the output of the video card to 848x480 and it still looks good.. i really cant tell the difference between the two.. the windows clock looks REALLY sharp on BOTH resolutions but im sure there is some sort of fuzzyness going on in the middle of the screen.. does any one have some sort of TEST images that i can try to display and take photos of?

just take a picture of what you got, take some close ups too. So as i suspected the monitor detects a different reslution. Can you get into the Nvidia utility and screw around with any of the timings or anything. You may want to try downloading Powerstrip and try some of the suggested timing settings.
