Agggghhh! Gutted & Disassembled - Lilly is Dead! Anyone help??

Hi All,

First - great forum! Got me this far - this far being complete Epia system installed in boot with all cables installed to the front with my lilly now fabb'ed onto velcro mounts in my MK4 golf double-din socket.

Took me ages so far and I thought rather than cut short up front, I'd go the whole hog and remove the screen from its plastic mounts, put the controller board behind the newly mounted screen and fab a nice double-din surround, but keeping the controller board mounted to the rear of the lilly plastics for strength and safety.

To make a long story longer, I last night extended the screen 'high volt' cables and was all ready to install this morning. But after connecting everything up, not getting any power light on lilly..strange I thought.

Checked connector voltage - fine. Reseated all connectors as per:-

all good it seems, but will continue to play. Checked various voltages on the board - getting various voltages, so its not a simple input fuse (there appears to be one just by the power connector on the board which is metering OK). Im so so gutted as I spent all my spare time over xmas doing the fabrication for this as I used to have it installed working fine, but wanted to make it look like some of your installs!!

Anyone with any knowledge of the lillyput 7" touchscreen controller board please get in touch. I have electronics background and happy to replace surface mount components etc if I can identify them. I hate the idea of buying another screen as I was very careful when taking to bits...any diagnostics creatures out there please reply!!

You're story is identical to mine! I've been doing fabrication over the holiday and ended up with a dead Lilli this evening. I found the problem at the small ribbon cable where is plugs into the circuit board with the power and control buttons. Make sure the cable is clean, then install it all the way to one side of the connector. If the red LED doesn't light when you power it up, disconnect the cable and move it all the way to the other side of the connector. I even had my blue LEDs blinking when I powered up, that's how bad my situation was. The connector will F#$% with your mind as the internal terminals are in line with the indentions on top of the housing. I was using those indentions to align the GAPS on the ribbon cable. So practically every time, I had the cable perfectly installed BETWEEN the terminals!

I found this to be the case so I alligned, metered and then marked the cable with the socket to avoid any future scares! Thanks for the reply.

However in my haste to get the bloddy thing installed, I connected the regulator up in the wrong polarity and "POP"! There she goes! I have a sneaky feeling that someone doesn't want me to get this install working! Any ideas about where I can get a replacement regulator for the Lilly input???

Either will do as I am happy to solder - only thing is there are caps around it which may be damaged also, so 'egg' would be perfect.

I read somewhere else that peeps are running this from the feed from their Opus or CPU PSU. I don't use an Opus and use the 80W clip on psu

And the ITPS, which I believe has a 12v regulator on board...

Q. Could I pull a clean 12v from either the ITPS or PSU to drive the Lilly? Im sure someone here has done such a thing...

As long as you've got a spare 800mA on a regulated 12V rail, you can use it. The egg is known to be of poor quality.

BTW, have you verified that your screen still works with the wall adapter? It's possible that the reverse connection fried more than your egg.

I plugged in reversed powered once and had the diode right next to the power plug fry. Have you checked that out yet?
