Need help, Sharp LQ5AW136 Car Navigation Screen

Hi everyone, I came across some 5" Sharp LCD's. They are model number LQ5AW136. They were made for car navigation or marine use. I have no idea how to hook them up though, I've searched for a while now..

There is a 22 pin connector for a ribbon cable. There is also another 2 pin connector, for the back light i'm guessing.

Here is a link to the data-sheet: http://www.sharpsma.com/pub/productf...s_lq5aw136.pdf

I'm totally lost on this one. Thanks in advance for any help.

Sounds like you'll need a controller and an inverter to get it working. Hope it was cheap enough to factor those in. Sorry, I don't know whats compatible with it.

Looks like this is just a video TFT screen with 234 lines. It won't look nearly as good as a VGA screen. It does have video inputs on the connector for two pairs of RGB inputs with NTSC or PAL timings and the backlight connecter requires a PWM inverter.

thank you for the reply. yes, they were cheap enough! free! all 24 of them! apparently each of them have a dead pixel somewhere. i already have a tview 7" touch, i was thinking of using these for head rest with custom shroud or some custom fiberglass work.

so i'm guessing the controller would have RGB out on it? yes, you're correct - it has 2 sets of RGB inputs and is ntsc/pal compatible. from that point on is where i'm lost.

here is documentation on how to configure a C & T 65545 controller to work with this LCD. I don't understand it. Don't know where to get that controller. And have no clue on the cost factor - as well as the cost factor on the inverter: http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cache...ntroller&hl=en

I have 24 of these damn things, would like to get a few working, lol. I can fry 5 or 10 and I'll still be ok. Any help is appreciated guys.

Based on the specs, do you think this is a good monitor for head rest or visor LCD?

BTW, I'm not electronically stupid. I work on car electrical systems all the time. But I'm new to LCD's. Thanks again!

Try http://store.earthlcd.com for possible controller solutions though price may be prohibitive. Forget trying to do anything with the C&T chip alone, this is the brain of most controllers and need a fair amount of support ICs and discretes to get it all working. Try googling for DIY solutions as there was rumour that work on making LCDs work with standard VGA ports with minimal peripheral components were bouncing around EIO.com but whether its possible are speculative.

optimally, i would like to be able to just input an RCA signal from a DVD, PS2, or something along those lines. Trust me, I've been searching and searching. Everything is still pretty new to me. Isn't exactly plug and play as I hoped. Just found out I will probably getting more of these units next week - so it will be even more frustrating if I can't get this to work... LOL

Thanks for the reply, still searching...
