ebay?

update & recap:

O.K., I know that when I got the backlight working great I claimed that the screen was now "perfect"....

as far as being super bright, it was... & the coloring really still looked ok when fully cranked.... a little washed out looking, but overall pretty good

then, in using it, I realized that the viewing angle wasn't great from the passengers side.... perfect for the driver, but I wasn't satisfied.... it sucked to get it that good & close to perfect, but then still have one huge disapointing flaw..... so I basically ripped it out & now..... the final screen is determined... I decided that the 12.1" lcd that is in the fujitsu tablet is going to be the best fit overall... the 10.4" lcd's I got are a little on the smaller side... the 12.1 is just right..

so after searching for just the lcd for a while, I finally got a 12.1" boe hydis...

it came in today.......

when I held the same lcd in my hands from a $1,400 tablet I was kinda scared to tear it apart, but this one was screen alone for around $500.... I'm this deep so taking it apart was the only option...... turned out to be a piece of cake

took it all apart... moddified the ccfl holder & removed the rearmost layer that would reflect the light back into the panel.... reassembled....... done

placed it on my lightbox.....fit's perfect

fire it up.....

first huge noticable difference is that the ccfl in this screen still lights the whole screen very well all by itself.... even with no leds on....

the previous screen when gutted the ccfl only lit the edge & it lost all it's light to the center & far side, it was useless & I didn't even use it.... this one is cool, because the stock ccfl can only add to the available light & is worth keeping, unlike the previous one...

then fire up the led's......

this time I can say it's really perfect... the screen fits my previously built box perfectly..... I was going to have to modify the box to use the 10.4", but this one fits 100%

when fully cranked the colors & contrast are really sick...the viewing angles are just increadable.... it just looks like a back lit photo from any angle...... this is definatley by far the best lcd I have ever seen... totally sick...

this time it's going to be done finished final..... it can't get any better than this

notice the mirror finish of the back of the lcd panel itself in the first picture..... on top of the brightness this achieves with my backlighting, it will also add brightness from the sun..... transflectively

...

it's a little hard to tell how bright these are, I used a good camera & it compensated for the light differences in it's exposure, the first is on just the ccfl.... the second & third one is fully cranked with the led's...... it's really nice

I'm confused - what am I seeing in the first picture? It looks like you have the Tablet sitting in the top half of the picture. Then it looks like the LCD panel is on top of that and then the CCFL & light guide assembly on top of that. And then there's the mirrored thing in the bottom half of the picture. How do the pieces fit together? E.g. Is that a true mirror or a half-mirror? Do anything go behind it. Etc.

yeah, I guess the picture is a bit confusing... first of all the fujitsu tablet just happens to be sitting there... & I'm just resting stuff on top of it, but none of this is from the tablet itself, just happens to be another identical lcd that's the same as the one in the tablet....

also, what your thinking is the lcd up top on the tablet isn't an lcd at all... that is the touchscreen overlay... on top of that is the lightguide with the whole optical stack still in it.... the part facing up of the lightguide assy would go face down on top of the mirror, which is the back of the actual lcd....

the mirror is the back of the lcd.... that is the lcd layer face down.....

I have a bunch more pictures of the dissassy of these lcd's... I can throw more up here later to show more of what this is like..... I'll stick some more detailed pictures later to clarify everything.....

that is not a true mirror, as it is transparent.... the whole optical stack & backlight fit behind it..... it's also not a seperate layer... it is bonded or laminated to the lcd itself... I can't actually touch anything in there though... even a fingerprint would be bad..... when an lcd is opened like this it should be covered with a clean new sheet of paper as much as possible to avoid contamination..... I only had it exposed for the pictures... this has to be treated like open heart surgery & has to stay as steril as possible....
