the dangers of doing this without doing it in a lab cleanroom is contamination... there can be no fingerprints, dust is bad.... a hair is really bad
you can't just clean these internal parts.... even blowing can be dangerous, & besides that, the internals are usually a bit static charged & attract stuff...

yeah bro... brooklyn, queens, manhattan.... I use this thing all over... never had one problem.... no one would even suspect a whole elaborate setup like this in an average minivan.... I don't even worry about it anymore
edit:, ...well, almost anyway

finally sparked her up tonight in the car for final setup & stuff... I can't say enough good things about this display... it's incrediable... so sharp & clear, from absolutely anywhere... anytime you can see the screen, you can see whats on the screen clearly... from outside through the side windows... easily readable... from inside the car in the normal seating positions it's just perfect... this is ust with the one oe ccfl!!, when I kick the leds on high the screen is so bright it lights up my whole interior... it's so friggin bright it just looks sick though, not washed out at all, just super super bright, can't wait to see it in the sun

I'm going to be doing LVDS as well...pm/im me about any pointers man. GREAT job. I loved how it looked when i saw it.
And guys, NYC isnt' so bad. The more you flaunt it, the more you are susceptable to lose it if you go into the wrong neightborhood. Its just that simple! I've left $5K of electronics in my unlocked celica cause i KNOW no one would jack it becuse it doesn't look like anything of worth would be there .

hey Dyer, what's up ... I've learned quite a bit, & gained some resources when it comes to lvds, I even went as far as developing my own 4x4 lvds switching matrix/multiplexer for lvds with 4 different inputs able to switch at will to any one of my 4 outputs(screens)... only one in existance afaik, controlled with a microprocessor... more info about that in my install thread..
I didn't put anything here for it, cause this thread is just the led backlight screen portion, but as an update/addition for anyone interested, I am putting a total of 4 lvds screens in my van on the multiplexer, with dual motherboards & a bunch of other wild stuff... check my install thread for more info if interested in seeing this
I'd be glad to help you... what size screen are you shooting for? I do have a bit of surplus, not much, but maybe I can help there too

Very slick looking. I'm thinking about doing something along the same lines, except I'll be installing it in a traditional widescreen orientation. I might not go quite 12.1" but we'll see. I plan to completely remove the area in my truck where the radio sits now, as well as the surrounding items, drink holder, cigarette lighter, power point, ash tray, a/c vent. This would leave me with a hole approximately 12" w by 8" h. I'll then do whatever fiberglassing nessicary to make it look clean. Seeing as I have no rear seats, this will be my only display.
If you would be so kind, could you please provide me with the dimensions of the screen itself?
I have two dell laptops I could canabalize for parts but the screens are 14" so I'd have to get creative with some sort of an enclosure for it to work.
Also, if you wouldn't mind I'd like to pick your brain a bit on building my audio system. I've got two JL 12's and two pio 6x9's. I'll be adding 5-1/4's to replace the factory rear speakers. I've yet to decide if I'm going to go with a combination amp, or run a separate mono amp to my subs. I will not be running a HU whatsoever, all audio will be supplied line level from the carputer.
As for budget, I'd like to keep everything (cpu, lcd, remaining stereo components) around $1000-1500. However I won't let budget impair my quality, and if anything the lcd and cpu will wait until I can afford them. In the meantime I'll just feed my stereo with a portable mp3 player or a laptop.
Thanks for any input you could provide me. I truely respect all the work you've put into your vehicle and the passion that goes along with it.

TurboCad6,
Hey just read 90% of this and man what a project!!! I just had a thought.. Did you ever consider putting a sheet of Electroluminesent paper behind the LCD for back lighting? (If you did and I missed that post I appologize.)
As i said this was just a thought, but theoretically if it worked you could possibly keep LCD's in their original enclusure and just mount the invertor on the back.
Curious to here your opinion.
