I gotta get my pictures back up, when I started my install thread I didn't upload them I just hosted them & there was so much traffic that it just got screwed up. I might be able to tonight, maybe tommorow, but I've been saying that for a few weeks now.
my install is pretty wild, but also unfinished, & I'm already upgrading it, I started with a p4 shuttle board that isn't bad, but also sucks in a lot off ways. I'm going for building "the best", at least in my eyes, & I learned the hard way that a p4 sucks in a laptop, & a p4 sucks in a car. a p4 is a good inexpensive processor for a desktop only to me, & low power mobile designs work best in the car for power requirements & tempature control, two key issues when it comes to seamless intergration which is one of the goals I have for this install.
I've got a few projects that I wish I had the time to post here, I usually go pretty nuts on my installs, they will make it here someday.....
and yeah, I would get another 12.1, I almost just bought it for the backlight & optional touchscreen, if they were the same 16:9 as this one they'd be here already

hey frodo, if I install this screen as 800X1280 what could I do to get a skin made to fill it, I don't know the first thing about skinning & I don't know if this is something that could be done relatively easily or if it's a lot of work?

Update:plans Done\fabrication Started
Well, this screen is going in....after some research & testing I discovered that basic cold cathodes are the best light source....the hid runs too hot & are not dimmable....high bright multiple leds are complicated because of color tempature issues.....so keep it simple & go with proven design. I built a stainless housing with 2 1/2" depth for addl backlighting...I can do up to 8 ccfl's behind this screen..... this in combination with a sheet of 3m anti-glare film should make it readable even in direct sunlight.
here are a few shots of the preliminary work....I took the laptop apart & removed the motherboard...I thought of building a new stainless steel case for the main board....but it would have took a real lot of effort & the original dell bottom half is actually pretty good as a case...it won't be seen in the install so I mounted a steel frame to it & reasembled it.
I have to extend the lower bezel a few inches to get it all looking right...now my car is a mess & there is no pc in it at all......but it should be awsome when the whole retrofit is complete......this is a pentium m centrino low power design laptop.....it will make a great carputer......

****..all my pictures are too big to upload & my new laptop doesn't have any editing software on it yet....I'll get photo's soon...............
In the mean while.....going back to a skin for 800X1280......I now defanatley need one......so anyone here......can it be done? how much work would it be to do something that would take advantage of the height...like dual display sections or something like that. I now am seriously in the market for this....anyone that could do this let me know & well see what we can work out...
