dont most front ends allow you to change the resolution setting? Neocar's (NMC) settings have it so you can have custom resolution that way you get the exact resolution.

another thing with neocar is that there is an easy to do skin creator all you do is make your own buttons and background and use the skin workshop and change the pictures to those you created and you can also change the size of the push button area.

as far as I've seen yes you can select several resolutions but the choices are for pretty standard resolutions....640X480 800X600 1024X768 etc.... I don't think anyone would build a 800X1280 res into a skin.... now as far as editors & designing my own...I never looked ito that at all.....I don't know how involved it is...I guess I will look into it when my setup is installed....but I still would like to find someone to do it if I could as I don't think it is easy to do...

i just changed my neocars resolution to 800X1280. its very vertical...

no problem when installed go to neocar manager and under general options go to screen resolution then custom resolution...

Hello!

Sorry to bring up an old thread, however I'm after a bit of information...

I'm currently looking at chopping up my Fujitsu lifebook, it has a 10" touchpanel TFT, and a fairly decent spec considering - P3 800, 256mb, 30gb... anyway - I had the idea of going vertical with it to fit into my dash.

I downloaded some software ( pivot pro ) to allow me to rotate the screen 90degrees, but this changes the resolution of the monitor, which then wasn't recognised by the touchscreen software - so it didnt work. Do you know of any way I can get round this? The only method I can think of, is to find some software that will allow 90degree rotation, whilst maintaining the original screen resolution.

Any ideas?

you simply cannot keep the same resolution...an 800X600 will have to become a 600X800 if turned sideways.....your touchscreen should work as far as I know, but of course you have to recalibrate it after the rotation since you are using add on software to provide the pivot....the calibration software should put up a series of touch points that it needs to orient itself...if that doesn't work then you may try updating to latest version of software/drivers for the touchscreen.......personaly, while I like touchscreens I have been finding that I almost never lean over & touch the screen anyway in this particular install, so I decided no touchscreen for this install...instead I'm going to use an anti-glair view enhancing film by 3m vituluki.....

I have a fujitsu b series touchscreen laptop that I used in an install & I used it upside down.....touchscreen worked fine come to think of it..also worked fine sideways come to think of it.....but this laptop had an ati driver that included the ability to rotate the screen in stock form, from fujitsu....have you looked into the posibility of downloading fujitsus drivers...I kinda assumed all fujitsus had this ability....

before you decide to do this install I would suggest you play around with the computer with the screen turned sideways....make sure all of your programs that you intend on using work ok.....play dvd's & run navigation....try everything you expect to be able to use.....if all's good go for it....I happen to think a laptop makes an awsome install for a lot of reasons......the fact that a screen is included is a real bonus if you can incorperate it into your design.......since yours isn't a widescreen I'm wondering....is the space you have available really so limited that you must tilt it in the first place...I mean on a 4:3 screen there isn't such a huge difference between up & down & left to right.... if you must tilt it then go for it...good luck

UPDATE!!!!!! IT'S INSTALLED!!!!!!!!!!

I welded up some framework to mount the screen & laptop body, it works awsome!! it fits awsome..... I'll post a few shots here.....more on my install thread...... This is an awsome way to install a centrino laptop & use the laptop screen......

all of my programs work great at this resolution...obviously dvd has only a part of the screen as a display....but it has to, otherwise it would look all narrow'ish

been playing with this setup for a few days now & it works flawlessly...it basically is exactly like two 8" screens one over the other without the seam....

web pages & song lists are displayed much better with a long screen actually, but it is a little weird with say dvd's because I can't use the whole screen to display it...but the area that displays video is the same actual size of the 8" that was removed....I just have extra space to display something else....this is a shot of watching a dvd while navigating.......many can do this, but how many can display both simultaniously

O.K., I've been using this for over 3 weeks now & it hasn't given me one problem with any program that I run on my carputer...... navigation, dvd, basically everything behaves & cooperates with this resolution.......SO it is now considered a permanent solution.........which brings in phase 2....... additional backlighting/high bright upgrade....

I have looked into a few alternatives for backlighting & narrowed it down to three possibilitys. First choice would be eefl's, which is a new technology being developed to replace ccfl's, which make up most lcd backlighting up until now....two main benifits are that they run totally cool & that multiples can be wired in series..... problem is this tech is so new that availability on a consumer level is 0

the only two other choices are standard ccfl's or high bright led's...... the ccfl's are tricky to work with..... inverters for multiples are hard to get & lastly the heat generated by a lot of ccfl's would have to be disipated with air ducts... which would over time introducw dust into the screen & heat up my dash, which I definately don't want.....SO....

I decided to go with choice #3, high bright led's......now these are also a big producer of heat.....but instead of primarily heating the ambient air they heat themselves up pretty good, meaning they actually need to be mounted to a heat sink to disipate the heat.....which is a good thing because I can now control the heat, or more specifically remove the heat from the screen & the dash for that matter...... buy using liquid cooling...

now it may sound crazy to have a liquid cooled lcd in your dash... but it's not really as crazy as it sounds. this is a picture of a cold plate that will be plumbed into the liquid cooling circuit..... there are 15 luxeon 1 watt led's sitting on it..... this screen will use two of these plates mounted to a 1/4" copper plate heat speader.... there will be a total of 35 of these luxeon 1's........ this thing should be super bright... more to come...
