Can you even use the navigation with a 7"
Buying a liliput 8" and I plan on using navigation alot.... can you even see anything with the 7 " like reading road names etc.... If it can easily be done on the 7" I feel much more comfortable about buying the 8"
Also need to decided if I am going to bondo the housing and all into the dash, or get the flip out.... I'd rather mold it in, but wiht the flip out I can turn, do the lilput's have very wide viewing angles ?? Will my passenger be able to clearly see the screen ??
With the 7" you can read the wording etc... In frodoplayer ?? Thanks

Ofcourse you can. Most cars that have stock navigation systems don't even come with a 7" monitor, but smaller.

Cris is right. Most factory nav systems come with a 6.5 inch screen though the trend is moving to bigger screens - the Acura TL has an 8-inch screen. VW and Chrysler have 5-inch screens! Just search around the forums and you'll see screenshot examples of the navigation screens. Also take a look at the screenshots of MapMonkey in action. Your biggest problem with reading the screens isn't size but glare. Just make sure to plan out its location with that in mind.
Note: If you want to go the flip out monitor route, you'll need to stay with the 7 as the 8 won't fit within a DIN opening.

What Nav software do you plan on using? You can customize Routis/IGuidance as well as Map Monkey to enlarge street names, change colours of the roads, make the roads wider, even change the driving icon into a picture of your car or what ever you want!
Also, map monkey can be set up to say the street names which is handy.

there is one important thing to consider here. There are lots of software packages out there and they are all designed with a particular user in mind. Many of them are intended to be used on laptops or even desktops. These programs will likley not be very good on a 7". On the other hand there are other programs who's interface was designed with pocket PC's in mind. These will work much better. One such program is called iGuidance. It's what i'm using and i am very happy with it. I know there are others out there but i can't comment on them.

Plasma looks pretty good to me. Maybe its not the best display you can buy, but its I think its pertty good when you factor in size / quality / cost. What would you get with $3000 thats 42" or bigger and fits on your wall?

You may want to consider what I'm doing. I'm going to replace the entire windsheild with a lcd display. A front mounted camera will show me the road ahead. Ill be using split screen pip for carputer and video screens.

I have an idea: use night vision camera thus you dont need front head lights. you might paint them to match color of your car and/or simply take them off and fill up the empty space with some fibreglass/bondo.

Now that would be a nice project, wouldent it. Wonder what to do if a bird hits your cam on the free way (or it just fails) thou.
Would be quite cool with the night vision =P Driving around at the freeway at full speed at night, without a single light... Wonder what you think if a car without lights passes you in the middle of the night, running at 200+km/h...
