I wanted to thank everyone for posting on this forum is has been a great help to me, so now it's my turn to help. I wanted to create a new cable for my Lilliput EBY701, that had the MDR14 on one end and a VGA, USB and Monitor Power on the other end. Reading these forums there seemed to be some confusion about the MDR plug, so I have listed a few sources here:
Allied Electronics has the plug made by 3M and the part # is 618-2200 and the housing is 618-2203
Molex also manufactures the connector. Their part # is 0543061419, and the housing is 0543310140. I actually went to the Molex site and requested free samples, and they sent me 2 of the connectors and 2 of the housings free of charge, no questions asked.
I have plugged both of these plugs into my monitor and they both work beautifully.
I found the MDR plug really easy to solder to, and actually had the most trouble on the other end where I was shoving 3 pigtails into a single DB housing. I also had some issues with different VGA cables. It appears that some of the VGA cables are shielding using aluminum wire, impossible to solder to. The cable I ended up using was a Belkin monitor extension cable.
I have made my cable 10' long and it works like a champ. Now my installation to my monitor is neat and simple yet I can still remove the monitor for use in other vehicles. If anyone wants to see a picture of the cable, please let me know and I will post it here.
FYI, my vehicle is a 2008 Ford F250 pickup, using a Jetway Motherboard in a Voom2 case, that has been modified to include a connector for Lilliput power on. I am using a PS2 Mini keyboard, Belkin Wireless Ethernet, and a 120GB Laptop drive. Right now I have about 40GB of music, 40GB of videos, and have made some small mods to the Digital FX skin to work with my Nav Software.
