Looking for a small Bare TFT LCD 4-5"

Anyone know of a cheap source for controller-less VGA res TFT LCDs in the 4" to 5" range? I have an SBC with an intergrated TFT LCD controller that I'd like to use.

Look at a PSOne screen - cheap, and you could always crop out the stuff that you don't need from it.

Josh; 640x480 looks VERY good at that size, try out one of the new VGA Pocket PCs if you don't believe me. Composite(what you called RCA) isn't that great for reading text off of, but with VGA the text is nice, crisp and readable, even with regular size fonts.

Rubicon; Thanks, already considering that option. Need to know the native resolution and pin out of the LCD though. I suppose I could just do the 'VGA mod', but that doesn't quite equal VGA (comes close though) and requires extra configuration (as I'll be using Linux).

My psone modded vga looks alot better than alot of the lilliputs ive seen, and way brighter.

Check out some of the pics in my recent posts. 640x480 looks fine.

Yeah, that doesn't look too bad. Is 640x480 an interlaced mode? What's the diameter of the circuit board?

diameter of the "genuine" psone screen is about 15cm
have seen a couple built into Body Glove cd carrying cases (designed to carry about 15 cds in a nice round steel case with a flip up lid)

That'd be just about the right size for what I need, thanks Jess.

It does appear that 640x480 is interlaced though, which is why the text seems to flicker for most people at that res. I'll have to look into Xorg's documentation to see if interlaced modes are doable.

3 inch is a little too small. That, and those screens take composite/S-video not VGA. Most likely the screen's native res is 320x240 or less, which wouldn't be usable with the controller on my SBC.
