So, give us new LCD touchscreen options!

Ok, I have finally tweeked my carPC and it is exactly how I want it. It works every time, ALL the time... and for those of you who have built these things know that is a feat

But my stupid Lilliput has that 'ghost image' problem as well as syncing with the display so every 3 out-of 10 times it comes up blank. How frustrating to have the LCD be the problem in your design!!! Plus, don't even get me started on the brightness!

So who has info on when/if a new HIGH BRIGHTNESS 7" touchscreen will be coming out?!?

There has to be something on the horizon, right!?!?

i'm looking!!! I found some 300cd/m2 but with that reflective technolgy to make them go brighter in daylight and a 5wire TS (bettert than 4 wire) but they cost £500! ($900) so i doubt you would want to payt hat much!

if anyone has a smached Xenard take the LCD apart and post lots of high res pictures - maybe we can design a new LED backlight system.

From what owners say around here 7"s have non-standard (for video cards) resolution. So, if a new one comes out, it would be wonderful to have one with more standard resolution

Josh, do you have any exploded pics/diagrams of the panasonic and hitachi LCDs you could send me?

Has anyone tried to use electroluminescant material as a backlight for an LCD? I was on a website the other day that sells it in sheets big enough to do a 10 in screen. I was thinking it might give off more light than just a few LED's.

I was going to try to build a better backlight using some of these led light bars. You can split them into 3 inch sections (3 leds per section) so I want to arrange them to cover as much of the 7 inch screen as possible. I think I can fit 9 sections for a total of 27 leds. They're pretty bright using 12 volts. Maybe put a dimmer to control brightness. Then I just need some kind of diffuser.

EL panels are not even CLOSE to the brightness you're looking for.

Remember, even with bright LEDs, you need to diffuse it somehow.

My thoughts are more along the lines of using tinted film to reflect sunlight back out before its able to hit the back reflective panels and wash out the display. I think a layer of 2-way mirror tint would be all you need to solve this problem.

What do OEMs do?

I know what you're talking about. Like the lights they use in projectors. Well, they're really hot
