Question Newbie: Please help on Hacking a TFT display from laptop.

Hi,

First of all, my apologies for not being able to figure this all by myself I'm a software engineer, so while I do have some basic electronic skills and theory, it's the first time I try to hack around with electronic parts... which means: completely NOOB

I've saved form the trash a Toshiba Satelitte S1700-500. The computer doesn't get power from the battery (only from AC). I've tried a new battery and it's the same, so I assume there's something wrong with the power controller. Also, even when plugged, it doesn't stay on for too long (between 10seconds and 5 minutes). The hard-disk is also broken, so I thought about trying to hack around the LCD and figure how to use it as a VGA secondary display.

After unmouting the LCD off, I've found it's a 13.3" Unipac display, PK070008900 Rev 1.0 with an TAD561 lcd inverter... It seems to be working 100% OK.

From what I've read in this forums I need a VGA controller. Problem is: where can I find one that is compatible with this display? Also, couldn't I borrow it from the laptop? Or is it possible that the controller is integrated within the motherboard?

If anyone can help me here, by giving me links, tips, ideas, anything, I would very much appreciate!!

Thanks in advance,

Hugo Jose Ferreira

Its not really worth the time or MONEY involved.

Its far easier and cheaper to go get a ready made screen, with a built in power supply. Im not good go into the specifics of it all, but not worth the head ache.

If you have read that you need a controller then you chould have also read that the questions always end up being answered in the same way as pate60 has.

It's really not worth it. + if you want a TS then you will have to fork out for a separate TS controller and overlay which will add a lot.
