Replacing connector in Lilliput

Hi guys,

I bought a replacement connector from digitalww.com (You guys are great, btw!) for my Lilliput because I had bent/pinched the short pigtail enough times to degrade the VGA signal. They sent a whole new cable along with the connector, and it's the new screw on type (still DIN) so I'm looking forward to installing it.

I've opened the Lilliput, and conscious of the problems some people have had with the mini ribbons, have been careful not to disconnect those. I've detached the back circuit from the backpiece and I'm noticing that the wires that come in from the DIN connector are soldered to the board instead of being a connector the way the cable from digitalww has. It looks like the same wires, so that's no problem, I was just wondering what other people did in this situation. Did any of you just cut the tiny plug off the new connector and do a straight splice? Or did you buy a matching female connector and use that? If so, any ideas on places to find said mini connector?

To be clear, I'm not talking about the DIN, I'm talking about the tiny plug that would be inside the Lilliput case (but happens to be hardwired on mine).

Aw heck, I can't think of a good reason not to just splice it. Why add complexity? And how often do I expect to really replace this? Never mind!

yeah I noticed this on the newer lilliput controllers, they actually have a plug that connects the video to the controller instead of the soldered wires

but of course they didnt add a plug to the TS controller

but at least the new DIN connecters have a screw to keep them together seems much more thought out and a tighter connection

Yeah, I definately dig the new screw-on connector. Good call from those guys. I've been awful happy with my Lilliput. One day, the screen got really dim after I moved the wire around, and I realized that I probably degraded the chroma line. I left it like it was for a couple days before playing around and running the 'auto set' whatchamacallit button in the menu. It did the resize check, then managed to recover over half the brightness. It was really nice the way that it recognized that the signal on one of the lines was out of whack and managed to compensate a lot for it.

might be the ribbon inside isnt seated right it happend to mine also and i just reseated it and it works fine and yeah for the din connection ive got the same ones that are solderd on good luck on the colors and brightness

Followup: Replacing the connector was easy. Almost all the wires were the same color, and since I was left with like one wire on each side that didn't match, it was a pretty safe guess that they were the same.

Snip, splice, heatshrink, a dab of contact cement inside the case where the cable enters, and it's all golden. Works perfectly, and the new connector is fantabulous.

I know everyone already knows, but digitalww.com 'r0x0rs d00dz'. Great people, fast service, and the quality of the replacement components is supa doopa. m4d pr0pz, as my 12 year old sugar cramming ADHD caffeine monkey neighbor kid would say.
