Has anyone EVER gotten a Lilliput to detect 800x480?
Hey all... I have been vigorously consuming information from this forum (and from all over the net) regarding the quest for 800x480. So far it seems like the only true success stories have been from Xenarc owners. All Lilliput solutions seem to include some sort of assumption that the screen is detecting the wrong resolution but it "works out" to 800x480 by either resampling, or cutting off pixels etc.
Has anyone ever gotten their liliput to report "800x480" through it's onscreen display? If so, can you post your video card hardware and driver settings here?
I read all 22 pages of the "quest for 800x480" thread, and since it has now turned into a kind of online petition for Via to fix their graphics drivers, I thought I'd start a new thread to discuss specific Lilliput resolution issues.
I am willing to try any solution that results in pixel-perfect usage of the display's capabilities. Any of these would be awesome:
1) ACTUALLY feeding 800x480 to the display and having it recognize it as such
2) Feeding it something like 800x600 and forcing it to display only the top 480 lines (pixel-perfect, not rescaled), sacrificing the full windows desktop but allowing you to size whatever application you want such taht it fits the screen.
3) Having it recognize the wrong resolution, yet trusting that it is actually displaying pixel-perfect 800x480 trough some sort of internal resampling routine.
I am wary of #3, but I have seen it mentioned before so I'm open to trying it. I'd probably have to see it to believe it. Obviously #1 is the ideal case. Are there any other ideas for getting pixel-perfect resolution? I really don't mind cutting off part of the screen if necessary. I do not require access to the full windows desktop in the car.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can share their Lilliput-specific experiences. Please post success stories here... as well as any paths you've tried that have failed miserably. I don't mind buying additional hardware to make this work, but I want to get all of my information straightened out before I even remove the shrinkwrap on this monitor that I've purchased! If it can't be done right then I'm not going to keep it.
Thanks!

I'm having the same problem, although I haven't recieved my Lilliput yet, I'm on a 19" viewsonic... anyways, I was using frodoplayer and trying to find out why skins are 800x480, I guess I'll do some more searching, but maybe it is because my video driver can't do 640x480, should I only be using 800x600?

I feed my lilliput 800x480 from an Nvidia card.
Don't remember if it reports it correct, but I
know it displays it correct.

My car is a built in S3 graphics ProSavageDDR, Is there anyway to alter this to do 800x480? I really don't like the stretched effect. I also have other cards, I plan on buying a newer card considering I plan to do a little bit of gaming.
But still the question remains, ProSavageDDR ... 800x480? anyone?

Thanks frodo... do you mind checking the info screen of the OSD of the lilliput if you get a chance to see how it's interpreting the signal? Do you know what advanced timing options you are using, or does the Nvidia just use some undefined defaults? When I set my Radeon w/Powerstrip up like in this screenshot, the PC thinks it's spitting out a nice 800x480 screen, but the Lilliput locks on it as 1024x768 and squishes it down significantly (extra black on the top, left and bottom of the image)

I have a Radeon 9200 sending 800 x 480 and the Lilli detects it with no issues.

Is there anyone else besides me who would like to see a picture of defilers setup with the on screen display reporting 800x480?

I'm more interested in exact vga timing details than "proof" pictures. Antimatter... I think you and I share the exact same issue... getting a card to generate 800x480 is easy. Getting our Lilliputs to lock onto it is not. Perhaps our Lilliputs' guts are not the same as the others on here...? What video card(s) have you tried so far? I've only toyed with my Radeon 7000, but I want to verify that the screen works before investing in a new card.

I DID find a thread with tonnes of macro shots of the LCD at different resolutions, however from what I could tell they were all Xenarc screens. I have confidence that the Lilliput CAN do it, I just want to know what settings will force it to lock on to 800x480. Is there another thread that I may have missed that discusses the lilliput specifically? I'll keep playing with my search terms, but the best I can find is an occasional "yes it works" but no details about what specific card&timings I should try (again, I can only find these details for xenarc).

Heheh... we believe you! we are just frustrated cause it seems like no matter what timing settings we choose, the damn thing refuses to lock on!
Thanks for your attention everyone! Maybe I'll just start buying video cards this weekend until I get one that works!

I hope you are being sarcastic or joking becasue i am definitly not calling you liar. You have been very helpful to me and others. I am just saying that you are one of the few who say that there lilliput recognizes 800x480 and locks onto that resolution perfectly. When you say it locks on to that resolution i don't know if you mean that it looks like it displays properly or that the on screen display says 800x480.
There have been several accounts where people have output 800x480 from their video card and the lilliput detects some other resolution although it fills up the screen. I just want to be sure we are all talking about the same thing. You don't have to post pictures if you say that the onscreen display says 800x480 then your word is good
