Partial CLE266 S3G 800x480 success

EDIT: Insert generic *Make sure you back up your registry beforehand* disclamer here!

Sorry if this is a repeat of old past information. I did a search and couldn't find anything similar. Having just started my carputer project, I'm new to most of this, but I have had some success trying to get to the native 800x480 resolution for my new 7" Xenarc. I've gotten the xenarc to recognize that there is a 800x480@60Hz signal being outputted from windows by screwing around in the registry. Specifcally, in

HKey_Current_config\System\CurrentControlSet\Contr ol\VIDEO\

There were three entries in that directory, and a few more a bit deeper. Looking around, I saw one that matched my current resolution settings. Simply changing the keys from my current resolution to 800x480@60Hz (decimal obviously), and then rebooting without touching any other setting got me there.

The problem is, is that although the screen looks MUCH sharper than 800x600, it still is not correct and it is streched vertically by a hundred pixels or so such that my task bar is "below" the bottom edge of my screen. To fix this, I've just stretched the windows task bar up till I could finally see it and then let each program resize to that. Over all, it looks pritty nice.

Anyways, thought I would share and hope someone else is able to repeat what I did or better get it working right.

Thinking about it overnight, I have an idea of whats going on. Windows is still outputting 800x600, but for some reason the xenarc thinks the resolution is 800x480, so its only displaying the first 480 lines, leaving the extra 120 to fall below the screen. Therefore, what I have displayed is the native resolution with 1-1 pixel mapping, I just need a way to restrict windows into not using that extra 120 lines.

Could you alter your skins to only output at 800x480? therefore only showing it on the top half of the screen?

I'm at work right now so I can't give a definitve answer or take a screen shot/picture or anything. I was using frodoplayer with the Brightlife skin. There was some extra space below the skin, maybe 10 pixels or so (about 1/3rd of the start menu button). Not sure how or why this would fit into the equation.

I'll hopefully play with it more tonight (EST), but if I can't get to it tonight, I probably wouln't be able to till next Monday. Anyone else giving this a try?

I've done this the whole time, my computer did this from the beginning. (Don't ask me why) I've told FrodoPlayer only to appear at the shown 800x480 pixels. (via adv screensettings)
