What causes the Lilliput touchscreen to go bad?
My touchscreen has started to respond ... shall we say "erradically" ... on the right side. It started in the bottom right and has moved up the entire right side. I did my and saw that this is common. I know I can get a replacement at digitalww for $45 which isn't too bad, BUT, i want to know why it went bad. What can I do to prevent the next one from going bad?
I read that maybe the problem is heat... could you put some sort of heat shield between whatever the heat source is and the rest of the screen? I have a custom enclosure for my lilli so maybe I could wire up a fan to help with cooling?

whenever my lilli is left in my car, when it is real hot out, it will distort the calibration, i have the claibration program running in the background all the time, and goto it whenever it does that, usually once a day... im not going to get the new replacment because it will prolly just happen again, i will be ordering a xenarc and remolding my dash to fit that.
i have heard people put fans on the back side of the monitor to keep it cool, but i dont like that method, too much sound produced, its bad enough that i can hear my harddrive spinning.

heat and UV are the main factors that destroy them, they weaken the plastic and make it separate from the glass substrate. That's why i'm trying to find a surface wave or capacitive touchscreen to use, as they are much more durable.
But it's almost impossible to find one in our size, unless someone wants to order 300 of them from 3M

Nothing to say. Just though i'd add another post with a car avatar
actually that was a lie.
I have had two lilliputs,
the first one is now used as a headrest monitor without the touchscreen as it has stopped working. I put that down to the screene being taken apart and put back together too many times during dash developement.
The second works just fine in the dash, and so far has not had any problems. However I need to get another screen for the other headrest, so will get one with a touchscreen so I have a spare.

Im not convinced with the heat being the cause of my probs with dear old lilly, why so many peoples go wrong on the right side ? more heat there ?
Mine mess,s up, then can get better, b4 going dodgy again . always the right side.
i just choose my skins carefully atm , cba to buy a new one to f**k up again.
I would love to install the newer eglax drivers, but it never does, always aks for file
"usbtouch" which isnt in the folder, but i can see it in diff versions 3xx but not 4xx.

Hahaha
But seriously -- it is very weird it's ONLY on the right side. I've recalibrated many times and it never works. If I touch the right most side of the screen the pointer appears about 1/2" from the edge -- so it's detecting my touch, just putting it in the complete wrong spot. I'll buy the story that it's hear related, but I dont think from the Sun or anything like that -- I think it's heat from the Lilliput itself.
Anyone have any ideas on how to prevent this?

Take the speaker out of the back and replace it with a small fan. Usually helps. Has been covered on list previously.

Anyone ever try putting a thin film of UV blocking material in front of the touchscreen?

I dont know if its the UV as much as it's the heat, now i've never had this problem with my touchscreen and it sits in direct sun while i'm at work all day. So maybe it's just shoddy construction
