I have the same problem and I have not had it remember the last position.. I'm sure I've tested it? And I know it's constant power because I also have the xmas lights issue.. Perhaps it's the ignition switch causing a brief shortage of power? But then the clock would not be set correctly and it is?

The main reason i didn't wire it like that in the first place is that i didn't want the extra battery drain.

Probably not enough to make much of a difference. Especially if you do the LED mod. If you have a basic multimeter, it should have an "ammeter" setting. Break the connection to the battery, and touch one probe to one side, and the other probe to the other side (Basically, all the voltage and amperage will flow through the meter, in series, and not paralel) and check to see. I tend to think it is no more then about 20 or so milliamps. Ceertainly not enough to drain you battery in anthing short of a month with out starting the car.

another update ... not so positive this time.
This morning i posted from work and everything had gone fine until then.
When i got in my car on my way back home, the screen hit the dash again. Even with the power being on all day.
This is really driving me crazy, since i can hear the motor spinning free in the gear and i'm sure it will wear out sooner or later.

Any suggestions welcome (again)

Did you wire it DIRECTLY to the battery? Did you pass go, or collect 200 dollars (sorry, that just slipped out) or did you wire it to the fuse box or the cigarette lighter socket, or something like that.

Michael

I tapped into the constant 12V supply for the car radio. My radio seems happy with it since it remembers my settings and time etc.
So does the screen, but it's clock is running a couple of minutes slow

update :
just got a reply from armen on my question about damaging the screen when hitting something

You're not going to have a problem. Mechanism has a gear that will freely spin when the monitor hits something. As soon as it hits something this gear will release from the rest of the little gears and just spins.

Good to know.

While your Stereo may be fine with not losing settings, there are lots of components that can effect this. Your steror might be better at maintaining the settings then the screen. The stereo may have larger caps to maintain a constant and continuous voltage during drops or losses of power, while the screen does not.

As a last ditch effort (If you are interested) try it DIRECTLY to the battery. That will ALWAYS have a constant good source of power.

Looks like John Duh and I have the same screens and we may be finally seeing the difference in screens?

I'm assuming we have a show of hands of people who can open the screen, adjust the face forward atleast one notch. Push the close button, wait for it to close, then push the open button, and it opens to the exact same spot?

I did this with the screen tilted forward and at 90 degrees and it did not remember either time.

Good to know that there's gears there to help but *should* this work?

i did the same test as AWDNUT a couple of times. Here's the routine

Computer running, car running, screen open
close screen
wait for a couple of seconds
open screen

The screen returned to 3 positions in different attempts
- fully opened (and hitting the dash)
- one position further than the one it was
- exactly the one it was

I might try to connect it to the battery to get to the bottom of this, but only when i need to open my dash for the next step of my project. If anybody feels like stepping in, feel free :-)

btw WiredWRX, can you tell me exactly how you connected the screen ? My connection is as follows
Green : to black (of screen)
Black : to ground of PSU
Red : to 12V of PSU
Yellow : to constant 12V of car radio

I tried a different one, but then the screen wouldn't open :
Green : radio ground
Black : PSU ground
Red : 12V PSU
Yellow : constant 12V of car radio

any suggestions ?

Is there a final out comes for this, do I need to connect both the power and remote wire to a constant power source to get it memorized?
