dual video zones help
ok.. I searched for 30 min or or so and got a few answers .. but I would like some opions.
I bought a 5" composite LCD from BestBuy tonight (open box $90), to be used as DVD and maybe display navigation info.
I'm hoping to use the "dvd overlay" function to pull the video fullscreen to the composite one, yes I have a dual head graphics card.
\what front ends if any support playing a video and music and or doing something else at the same time.
is there a way to do it with frodo.
and I have my flame suit on for my lameness.
on a side note: we should compile a "wiki" style encylopedia on carpc how-to , and faqs, yes forums are great, but we have so MUCH info on here now it's hard to weed out the junk.

Windows uses an overlay for most video displays. Check your video card setup, you can set the overlay to display on a second monitor. I do this on my system with the overlay set up to my 17" monitor on the side, I can play a movie or watch tv and it will show the movie on the second screen.
Try it, look in your advanced video card setup and check out the overlay section.

AIMEE will be supporting dual monitors when it is released. There are no release dates though.

I like centrafuse, is ther any front end that supports, 2 sound cards, and playing a video and mp3 .. so as to play and mp3 and video.. using overlay for the rear.. and still having navigation on the front, and playing music..

A lot of it depends on your video card. Many of them only support overlay for one output. You might see if the card's software has 'hotkey' support, so you could change modes from 'Overlay out' to 'Clone screens'. If you clone the screens, what you see up front would show up there..
Can't answer about the front end though..

it wouldnt actually be difficult to make this in the frontend.... it would just required say support for Video and GPS on the same skin... then instead of having a 800x480 skin, you would have a 1600x480 skin, 2 desktops, and just put the stuff for the rear-view monitors on the second half, and the normal stuff on the first half...

I though of that idea aswell. There is a skin for meedio that will allow you to do that. I believe this will only work for the Video as DVD is encrypted, and will allow you to go through one device only. When I tested this with meedio, I could only get sound out of the tv, no movie. Maybe I missed some setting somewhere. Might try again
