xenarc first impressions, tried lilliput before
just got my xenarc 700ts today
first impressions, it looked better from my previous lilliput.
powered it up, and you can immediately see the difference from the lilliput. brightness and clarity looked significantly better than lilliput, but does it conclude that the xenarc's priced 100$ higher? i had to check it out a bit more.
powered it up, booted up into windows. i immediately noticed a dead pixel on the bottom part of my screen. that's what i get for saving 30bucks. oh well, it doesn't interfere with the rest of the screen, it's on the bottom anyway.
i use a via epia m-10000, and i downloaded the bios and driver that SUPPOSEDLY would make it work on it's native resolution, 800x480.
tried it, it didn't work. i did have the option in my display settings for 800x480 at 60hz, but i tried it and everything didn't look good. my start button was missing, it looked like everything on the left side was missing. my taskbar looked good though. but everything else looked out of sync.
i have yet to try powerstrip, but i don't think i'd want to try it out. i use centrafuse as my frontend, and there's no 800x480 skin so i don't want to bother with it just yet. if centrafuse gets a 800x480 skin, count me in for the quest for 800x480 resolution. until then, 800x600 looks good.
i have yet to mount the xenarc to my car, so i have yet to test it against the sunlight. my lilliput wasn't up to the task before. you can't really see much when the sun's out with a lilliput. i have yet to see the xenarc in my car, but i'm optimistic because i see better brightness compared to the lilliput while it's still here in my house.
auto power-on was also a good thing, and i know that you can do a mod on the lilliput that'll also give you auto power-on. i don't have any soldering skills so i'll pass on that. besides, i don't think my hands aren't stable enough.
so here's the conclusion
xenarc > lilliput in terms of brightness
xenarc > lilliput in auto power-on (but yeah lilliput can be modded for that)
xenarc > lilliput in design (the bottom part's flat, i think that'll help in my fabrication)
xenarc < lilliput in price (100$? damn)
xenarc = lilliput in the quest for native resolution. can't get any of them to work on 800x480
bottom line, if you can afford a xenarc, go for it. but a lilliput will do its job too, while sacrificing just a bit.

First Off what lilliput are you comparing the xenarc to?
Secondly you will have to use powerstrip to get your xenarc to display 800x480. Look on xenarcs website in the faq.

This is due the touch pannel used in the older lilliputs. This has been fixed in the new ones

The new ones can be programmed to do this without any soldering

The New Lilliputs have an even better design than the xenarcs
If you are in the market for a new screen i would say buy the new lilliput. The only option that it doesn't have (as far as i know) is the reverse camera auto detect.

I must say that my new lilliput is very good (2005 model. model number is 629). I can't compare it to a new xeanrc but compared to the older xenarc, the lilliput is much better.

Not sure if the Lilliput has the 4:3 and 16:9 switch but the new Xenarcs do, i think that and the auto power on and camera function are the main features that are different......
