12V line for LCD from Stereo harness

Hey Guys -

Searched but didn't find an answer -

I'm removing my stereo to replace it entirely with a carputer - RCA jacks (from a Metra wire harness connected to the original stereo harness) will plug into laptop outs.

On the harness, there's a 12V line thats not used (along with dimmer and acc) since there won't be a head-unit on there. The wire looks like it's 16 gauge - have any of you guys powered your LCD from this line?

I don't think there'd be any problems, since the stock stereo/other cd units probably draw more current than the LCD, but I just wanted to make sure you guys didn't run into any problems doing this. (I'll still put an ldo in for regulation).

yup it will work great, I actually power mine from the ACC line so the LCD turns off and on with the car.

...but is it possible to use this 12v source for both the hu and the lcd, at the same time?

I so want to do this, to limit the amount of wiring needed.

You might have issues with current consumption. ie when you have the volume up and bass going through, screen might flicker.
