I think any stock 3-pin IR eye will work.
Good find, thanks. Girder is hard to understand without a proper howto.

I am sure there is. If you can take a close up picture of the IR eye and its surrounding components, I might be able to help. Any numbers on that IR eye?

K thx for the info.. guess its time to hack the ole lilli open again. All i would really want is control over playback functions in RR/winamp and maybe the ability to switch between music and gps mode. I take it these things are acheivable thru girder? If all this pans out i just might forget about replacing my touch screen!

Yeah girder should allow you to do what you want, once you understand it all that is!

Almost just as easy as hooking up that IR eye

I can't figure out Girder. I used the included Ir program, and it worked, but it thought every button was the same. The LED's in my IR receiver showed up (so it was connecting to COM1), but it wasn't receiving any data. I'm thinking if I gut the IR reciver and add one of those circuits, it might work.

please forgive the super noob when it comes to serial port wiring but i'm having trouble reading the above diagram. According to what i see pins 2 and 4 dont connect to anything? and the connected pins are 1 & 3, 7 & 8, 5 & 9? Then 5 & 9 are both connected to ground... correct? I just wanna be sure before i end up fryin components.

Correct.

Yes. Crossing lines don't touch each other, unless the crossing is a dot.
Hope this helps -- good luck!

Yeah, it's a matter of selecting COM1 or 2 instead of USB.
I have just finished installing Girder on my MII-12000 based carputer (earlier testing was done on laptop) and it works fine. What is the latest and/or most complete GML-file for RoadRunner?

there's a sticky in the road runner section with gml's. Dont bother downloading mine its probably a little too basic.
One LAST question on doin this. Now granted i havent cracked opened my lilli case, but i was wondering if i already have my infrared sensor remotely mounted, can i just splice into those wires instead of soldering directly to the board? This would save me alot of time and prevent having to crack open that touchy case again.

Mox can this be used without the screen ie; If I can buy just an eye and have it connected to the serial port?
Also...where can I get an eye?
