DWW - 700M : not opening
hello guys,
This weekend my screen arived ... but as the title already suggests, i couldn't open the screen.
I powered it off an ATX PSU from my computer and it turned on perfectly. I could set the time on the small display, but when pressin the open-button nothing happened. Oh yeah, i fed it a display signal off my laptop through the 15 pins connector cable that came with the display.
Any suggestions ? Did i miss something ?

someone posted something similar, you have to connect the red and yellow wires that arnt connected to anything to themselves i think, its for a handbrake sensor so you can use the screen while your driving.

can you be a bit more specific ... or maybe give me a link ?
I did a quick search but couldn't find it (and since i'm at work i can't search for hours)
On the screen's power connector there are 4 wires
- 12V (yellow)
- ground (black)
- earth (red)
- lighting signal (green)
From your reply i undestrand that i should connect red and green together. Correct ?
TIA

by the looks of it put black and red together, check the manual, it all depends on how the screen connects to the handbrake for its signal

The manual says ground or something crypitical for the red wire. I'll give it a try as soon as i get a chance.
Thanks for the help

OH, MY , GOD. First of all, no one so far seems to know what they are talking about, including the original poster.

Somewhat correct, but nope.

Your wiring color is wrong. Green is no a "lighting signal"

While somewhat correct, when was the last time someone had to connect Black and Red to the same source. Convention dictates Black is ground, and Red is power. I realize you were using JDs wiring diagram for that statement, but still.
Phew, now I feel better.
The wires are Red, Yellow, Black, and Green.
Red is constant power, Yellow is accessory power (12 volts when the car is running, and nothign when the car is off), Black is ground, and Green is the handbrake switch.
You must ground the handbrake switch wire to get the unit to work. It can be connected to the Black wire, and both grounded to the same place if you like. Yellow and Red CAN be connected to the same 12 volt source, but they should be connected correctly to operate correctly. If you are just testing the unit, don't worry about it. The red supplies power to the unit all the time, that way when the Yellow wire loses power (From turning off the car) the unit still has a power source to close the screen.
Please, if you are unsure about something, state it is such, or research the answer. Just blindly giving advice can lead to trouble. And John, . While I agree that the manual isn't the greatest, the only real question is the green wire. Red, Yellow and Black are both explained in the manual, and pretty self explanatory.
Michael
Sorry for the rant, just don't want him to screw up his unit.
Also, you can check out my 700m modification thread at http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show...ight=Motorized

And yes, i got the wiring colors wrong, but that makes two of us. The manual states that Yellow is constant power while red is switched. (or at least that's what i understand when they say "+" battery)
Anyway, Arwen jumped in and sent me a PM, so here is the correct connection for testing purposes to a normal ATX-PSU
yellow + red -> yellow PSU wire (12V)
black + green -> black PSU wire (GROUND)
don't know if it matters which ground you use, but i took 12-ground
Guess for in-car purposes that the connection should be as follows:
yellow -> battery +
red -> switched 12V
black -> ground
green -> ground (or handbrake if you don't want to open your screen while driving)
Thanks to Arwen for his support in this matter

I apologize for confusing the Red and Yellow. I was going off memory. I just wanted to make sure you didn't connect red to ground, and green to +, cause that would undoubtadly have caused a problem in the unit, and certaily. black and red together to a positive source would have had the same ending, a broken unit.
Did you get it to work?
Michael

Same here (going off memory) ... seems we both need an upgrade
Yes, I got it to work ... now i only need to get my software sorted out and i can start thinking about installing it in my car
