Xenarc 8" TSV backlight acting up.

I've got a Xenarc 8" molded into my dash bezel (pics here), and it worked great for about a week. If you don't know, the 8" model has a backlight dimming button, which allows you to select Bright, Medium, or Dark settings. Now, heres where it gets messed up: SOMETIMES (mostly during the day...its really wierd) i can cycle through all the options just fine....then other times (mostly at night...), if i go to DARK setting, the backlight AND screen shut off and I'm left with just black. But the touchscreen is stil active because i dont hear the windows XP USB unplug "do-do" sound.

I have to unplug the power for a bit and let it chill and then continually mash the power button to get it back to life, and when it does, it comes back on Bright setting.

Also, sometimes even if i leave it on Bright, the backlight will have visible flickering.

I'm not really sure what it could be, all my connections and wires seem tight...its the whole sometimes it'll do it, sometimes not that has me confused up the butt.

Any ideas? Thanks guys.

My only guess is not enought/under(volt) power. How do you power the screen?
My assumption base on during the day, you use less power from the electrical system cuz no head light. During the night, the head light draw some power from the electrical system, thus causing flickering on the screen.

Hmm, interesting idea!

I am powering it from the wallpack plugged into a 300W inverter. I get a rock solid 12.2V but i did not measure with the headlights on. Thanks for the response i will check it out!

5:30PM - about 80 degrees outside, backlight occasionally flickers... (headlights off or on, doesnt matter, so i dont think its a load issue anymore)

this is driving me crazy!

Okay, now its totally dead. No screen output whatsoever. Touchscreen still detected by windows, but absolutely no display. I'm so glad I paid for Xenarc "quality"

And just because I molded it into my dash, my warranty is null and void. I was super extra careful with handling the screen, and this is what happens anyways.

So I guess I'll fire off an email to Xenarc, only to have them tell me it'll cost like $200 to fix it and then up mine.

Damn this carputer stuff, damn it so hard.
