multiple monitors without pc

I know this isn't really car pc related, but I figured this group would know, if anyone does.

I'm looking for a 'module' that will let me split one composite image over multiple monitors. Basically, I want to put like 4 8" LCD modules in a 2x2 grid, and make them act like one big monitor.

Again, this is for a car audio / video project that doesn't use a computer...that would be too easy.

I've found some big cost professional grade video stuff, but I'm hoping to find a simpler, cheaper, option. All I need is composite in and out.

So you want the monitors to only possess a small portion of the image and when looking at all the monitors you see the full image?

Exactly...each screen would show 1/4 of the image, so when they are put together, you see the whole image.

I've seen this done in bars, clubs, department stores, etc., I just can't seem to put together the right 'goolelogic' to find much.

Hmm I don't know what you could do without using a pc. Whatever it is that you do will be expensive. Your best route would be to use a pc and a vid card that'd do what you're wanting.

yeah you can do it, its used for monitor walls like at best buy, but it will cost more than you want to spend. I think they are well over 1000 dollars

Anyone happen to know a brand name? While $1k is maybe more than I'm looking to spend, its better than the $38k I found on one website! Its for a pretty extensive show car, so $1k isn't out of the question.

Also, if I know what I'm looking for, maybe I can find a used one.

Agreed, a PC would do it, and probably cheaper, this car is already outfitted with lots of audio video stuff, and I don't really want to redo it. We're doing a pc in another show car, so we could go that way, though.

Here's an idea. Maybe you could spend that $1k and more than likely less than just setting up a video only pc. I mean throw OS on it and put in a really nice vid card. It may take some re-wiring as far as sending your video media through the pc and then out the pc and to the monitors, but it's something I'd definitely look into if I were looking to do what you are trying to do. Just trying to throw some ideas out there for you.

You might be on to something there. It could be really dumb, as all it would have to do is run an OS for the vid card, and some sort of app (frodocam?) to take a signal and split it.

Maybe I could even do all that from a CF card, or something...not even have a hard drive.
