Red face Newbie LCD ques

I'm just looking into puttin in a carputer. I have a '97 pathfinder with a cd/tape deck which i believe is the size of two regular decks. I measured diagonally across and it's about 8" at the exterior perimeter, and since it tapers in, it's about 7.5 at the interior edge.

So a couple questions. I see this LCD on an ebay store

7" LCD

first off, is this a decent price ($319)? and is that a good res?

The dimensions it gives is 4.5 x 6.5 x .75" but if that is true then isnt it 7.9" diagonally across?

And my last question which I should prolly just go figure out on my own, is there a special video card or controller card required to use a display like this?

OK thanks for the help,
Tim

That's an ok price for that kind of stuff.

But:
- It's widescreen so windows will look funky on it, or there will be wasted space on the side.
- It's NTSC. It runs off of a tv signal, so a comptuer signal won't look too great on it, and it will be hard to read small text.

The dimensions are the outside dimensions. 7" is only the measurement of the screen space.

If you want to get an NTSC signal from your computer, you either need a video card with a TV out, or a VGA -> NTSC converter.

ok, I'm done

OK. That does help a lot. But now I remember reading somewhere on this board that you can change some windows registery settings for the screen ratio.

Is winamp goin to look that weird in a 16:9 ratio? As well as any GPS software? If not then I don't think it should be a big deal for me. Must be good for DVD's tho. Which by the way, I have a ati all in wonder, so I have vid out. That should look fine right?

i will take some pics when i get home of my 7" widescreen.
dont think the windows desktop look funny becouse there are different functions on the screen that auto resize the screen.
all is readable and winamp looks great (although i use cobra as frontend)

OK, cool thanks. Is that a 16:9 aspect ratio? And its NTSC signal right? How is the quality on it?

Where did you find yours and how much did you spend?
