Has anyone used a laptop screen for their lcd display?

I have 2 old Compaq 386 laptops that I have no use for, so I was thinking is it possible to use the screen and hook it up to video card on the mp3 player that I'm building? I'm looking at it as a step up from the 40x4 lcd display but I will evetually put in a display so that I can view DVD's.
