Post 5v power?

on jeffs site i read

"Most parallel ports do not supply enough power to operate an LCD. I decided to use the keyboard connector to power my LCD. I have a cable that goes from the keyboard connector to the parallel port connector, and then a cable that goes from the parallel port connector to the display"

I looked on his site, and couldnt figure out how this is done? Are you able to do what he did if you use a keypad connected to your AT 5-pin DIN port? the lcd i plan on using is the 40x4 one from arby. thanks (and btw i tried using the search tool, just couldnt find anything.)
thanks,
dave

Can't you just use the 5v supplied by your power supply?

just split it daver. 5 volts from the keyboard is gonna be no better/worse then 5 volts from the PSU. Just cut into one of the 5volt wires from your psu....

I use a 7805 voltage regulator to power my 40X4 LCD. Just add a heatsink and it will give you 5V@1amp max. It looks like this...
____
|___|
| | |
| | |
1 2 3

1 connects to 12V
2 is ground
3 is your 5V output.
make sure you use a heatsink though otherwise it will get hot and might blow up hehe
