Exclamation WARNING: Timeline 40x4 Densitron LCD

The pinout that Timeline ships with the Densitron 40x4 character LCDs is incorrect. For anyone who purchases one, use the Nathan Stuart diagram available at http://www.eio.com/lcd4034.htm to wire it.
Unfortunately, I found this out the hard way and my LCD controller is now dead.

Stupid TImeline... sorry to hear, id demand a new or refund.

are you assuming its the same cuz of the data sheets posted in the other forum, is the same pinouts. Is that the one for our lcds.

Also i looked at the 15 pin for E2 and it looks like theres no connection coming off on it to anywhere?

PS- cuz the number on the back of my lcd is HC4857FGY-LV0094
while the data sheet says
LM4857-LV models
http://www.cs.usm.maine.edu/~stuart/lcd/
Nathan Stuart's plans can be found there also. Link didnt work for me.

Another place you can go to look at the exact pinout for the Densitron model is:
http://www.densitron.com/display/pdfs/lm4857lv.pdf

That will show the pinout only, which you will find corresponds to Nathan Stuart's schematic.

So, the question is: Since we both destroyed our LCDs are we sure that the pinout described on the densitron datasheet will work?

I know it's from the factory and all, but who knows if it will actually work if it has been done correctly from the beginning.

**calling Timeline**

Okay, they offered to replace it... luckily some other people have called in and let them know of the problem. They also seem to have access to the correct pinout now, and I think everything should be back in order.

I'll let everyone know how it works out when I get the new one.

miles, I am the one who sent Timeline the link to the Densitron pinout so maybe that is why they think they have the correct one now. Of course I don't know for sure...but since it is the same model as the one we have and it is coming off of the Densitron webpage, and it DOES cause my lcd to display black bars when I connect it in that way, I would like to think it is correct

Sounds good to me... Only time will tell.

Thanks for your effort in this situation. I appreciate it very much.

Mine's already back in the mail for a replacement, but I think it was the same as Supermatty's number.
There seemed to be more than 1 datasheet on densitron's website for the kind of LCD that we have, but I'm not sure which one is right.
How did you choose that particular one SuperMatty?

Simply because the other 4857 model uses a 12V backlight. And we know ours is a 5V

I ordered a Timeline LCD about 4 months ago, and promptly fried it due to their pinouts. When I called for help, the guy that worked there chewed me out cause I was asking some questions and he had other people on hold.
When I hooked mine up according to their pinouts, it got extremly hot and a chip basically melted. I called them up and got extremly mad (to the same dude who was a jerk to me) and got a refund.
Just thought I'd throw in my .02$
