question about resolution

I am a little confused about the resolution of this moniter:

It says its resolution is 1024X768, but if I wanted to drop down to 800X600 would it still work properly.

For example: my friends laptop simply shrinks the image when you lower the resolution from 1024X768 to 800X600, and gives you black bars all the way around the image without increasing the size of the icons and such.

Would this moniter do the same? I don't want to use such a high resolution.

And on other laptops i've seen the screen gets totally filled but 800x600 on a 1024x768 tft-screen just looks real bad (at least on the compaq laptops i've tried)

ok, so will this moniter be able to display 800X600 or 640X480 without the back bars around the image?

It may or may not. I think it depends more on the video controller than the screen. I do know that if you do get it to go full screen at 800x600, it will be a little fuzzy looking.

silly question time:

why would you want to drop to 800x600 if you have 1024x768?

ironically I think that analog LCD screens will display smaller resolutions *better* than digital screens (at least compared to full resolution on that same screen), because the digital screens will expand it like the computer would, so for example every 4th pixel it'll duplicate, which gives a rather ugly look. But since the analog screens do interpretation of the signal from the beginning, it'll scale it to a smaller resolution much better than a digital one would.

Origionally I was thinking of using a touchscreen but know I don't think I am. Lowering the resolution would have made the touch easier because the icons and things would be bigger.

Aside from the resolution, will this moniter plug into this PC http://shop.store.yahoo.com/pctekonl...bkbookpcc.html without anything else (connectors, adapters, controllers, or anything else) and work properly?
