Help me to choose LCD panel, plz~

Should I get 10.4" Panel with 1024x768 or 8.4" panel with 800x600?

8.4" would be better size for my project but 800x600 seems little too small.

What do you think?

i`d say go for 10" @ 640x480....
but i would say that since all my divx r 640 width, so they would always look better if they aren`t scaled

it`s just my opinion, but anything above 640x480 seems like overkill for a car. Still, out of the two options u gave, i would choose 800x600.

Well is that too small for some applications?
I'm planning to run full applications.
I thought 800x600 is min. resolution I need.

The reason I thought about having 800x600 over 1024x768 is b/c icons and buttons would be little too small on 10.4" w/ 1024x768 screen size. by the way I'm gonna have touch screen. I tought it might be little too hard to see while I'm driving.

But I can have bigger app. screen(good for GPS & etc)

what the hell do you plan on running on this thing while you're driving??

carputers should only be used for playing music and possibly the occasional movie while you're sitting in the parking lot waiting for your girlfriend to get out of the tanning salon, not to run full apps on and write up your book report and play quake while you're in traffic (bad BAD idea).

And besides, the better you want the more expensive it's going to be. I don't think that you're going to need more than 640x480. Think long and hard about what *realistically* you are going to be doing with it before you commit yourself, perhaps I'm wrong and you have a perfectly legitimate use, but for anything other than basic music/gps/movies, just get a cheap laptop that'll be much more powerful and easier to use off ebay and use that for your "full application use".

Ok, now think how nice and large the icons and text would look on a 10.4" screen that is 640x480... I hope you understand what i mean, but 640x480 is ideal for most things.... divx, mp3, gps.

Theres no point in getting 1024x768 unless you really need it. The only reason i could think of is if you wanted to look at websites in the car for example.

Anyway, get what you want. Try running different resolutions on your crt, and then try running the apps you will be running in the car, and see which res u like. Good luck!

I have a 10.4" touchscreen running at 640x480, and the only problem I've had is that windowsXP asks me if I want to up my resolution every time I restart the computer.

FROM EXPERIENCE: you do not want to run any higher than 640x480 on a 10.4 because the tect will be too small for you to easily read. you do not want to have to struggle to read a song title going 50 MPH--I have almost had many collisions while trying to read even BIG text.

and DVD's look better at 640x480 anyway
