lcd brightness question

i found an lcd that i can use butt he problem is that it is only 120cd bright.
Do any of you know if its possible to change
the backlight on an lcd? Doesn't this determine the brightness??

The backlight and inverter in combination determine the brightness, it is possible to change either or both. I'm not sure but the panel contrast ratio may also have some bearing on how bright it can be and still look good. If anyone knows for sure I would like to know that myself.
