I can be done, but it's not cheap or easy. Start by finding out what make and model the LCD is, then start searching this site, Google, the forums at EIO, EarthLCD, etc. Find out what kind of graphics chipset the laptop used and then try looking for a controler using the sae chipset. For example, tonnes of laptops a few years ago used the Chips & Technologies 6550 chipset, and as a result there are lots of controller cards based on this chipset. If you find a controller card using the right chipset, find the specs on how to wire it to your LCD. You will also need to find what voltages are required to drive the backlight inverter, and a bunch of other stuff as well. All said, you'll most likely end up spending more than the cost of buying an analog VGA LCD or an LCD kit from EarthLCD. Best of luck, make sure you post here and share if you have any success.
