Where can I find a 7" LVDS Display with 800X480 resolution.
I've been looking around for a 7" LVDS screen, but the few that I find are mostly low resolution or very ver bad brightness.
Does anyone know where I can find one with min. 800X480 resolution ?

Any luck?
I was looking for the same thing. Most 7" monitors with 800x480 are with FFC interface. There seems to be 6.3" LVDS monitor with 1024x768 from NEC, but I think that may be too small for the two din size.
Let me know if you find any. =)

Since I been considering a LVDS monitor myself but have turned up little luck in the smallish 7"-8" widescreen department, I've been looking into other solutions.
It seems to me that most LCD panels actually are LVDS natively but runs on a VGA converter.
So it's actually just a question of getting the right cable from the LCD panel directly to the LVDS output on the motherboard. That can be several different types but the standard 34 pin dual inline connector seems the most common.
This is a picture of the backside of a standard Phylon 7" widescreen monitor. The FCC (Flat Cable Connector) on the left is actually a LVDS cable running from the converter to the panel.
I'll post more info when I've actually tried it myself but theoretically it should work by just inserting the right connector from the LCD panel to the LVDS output.
Here's the cable you would need with this monitor. For other monitors that varies.

Seems kinda odd that it would be more or less impossibe to find a bare panel that is LVDS and 800X480 native (or better) and yet most monitors would use a LVDS screen....
Liliput ans Xenarc do not, and they're probably two of the biggest plyers in the carputer screen business.
Do you know which panel it is in the Phylon screen ?
I gave up on LVDS, instead I found a (what I hope it to be) very good panel and a very cool VGA controller... but more about them at the end of the month when I get them delivered.

Well, a widescreen LVDS panel, yes you would have trouble finding..
But 8.4" 800x600 and 1024x768 4:3 aspect panels are available.. but they're not widescreen.
But I'm sure you knew that...

Yup, 8.4" no problems, even found a 1024X768 I was very tempted by, but there's no way I can fit it and still make it look "OEM".
But 7" Widescreen with 800X480 or better... I wont say "impossible" but so far I haven't found one.
Maybe Saturnus was talking about tft-monitors in general in wich case his statement would be somewhat true, but the thread was for 7" in particular and then it is not.
I seriuously doubt that the Phylon is LVDS, that's why I asked what panel it was... 'd a bit but I couldn't find anything useful.

No, I was talking 7" widescreen touchscreen as that is my particular interest as well. A little digging turned up the Phylon to be another dud in the LVDS sense. It's another TTL interface.
However I think I may have stumbled over a solution in the digging process that would turn any flat panel display into a LVDS display.
A German company produces a multipurpose LVDS->TTL interface. And since all colour LCDs are TTL at native level that could solve the problem for practically all screens regardless of brand and resolution.

Yeah, I had looked into LVDS-TTL converter boards a while ago.. I think the ones I saw were relatively inexpensive, about $18 USD or so.
However, you still have one problem to overcome - the resolution.
Your system must support that LCD panel's widescreen resolution on the LVDS transmitter, and those timing parameters are usually embedded in the BIOS, in the form of a "LCD Type" selection.
Most only support about 8-16 different resolutions, most of them at a 4:3 aspect (eg, 800x600, 1024x768), or at much higher resolutions (1600x1280, etc).
Some motherboard VGA BIOSes can be edited after the fact, and re-flashed to incorporate the new resolutions.. the VGA BIOS is a subset of the complete system BIOS, and is embedded within that system BIOS.
The Intel Extreme Graphics on-board video is one example, like on my Commell LV-671 with LVDS - the VGA BIOS can be edited using the Intel BIOS Modification Program (Intel BMP), and then re-integrated into the system BIOS image and re-flashed.
But it's tricky, very tricky...

Giuliano: sorry to dig up an old thread, but I have a mobo with on-board LVDS. Right now I'm just using my Lilly since I need/want to get this damn CarPC installed finally, but in the future I'd like to look into LVDS. Have you gotten anywhere with this? (i.e. 7" widescreen LVDS panel (with or without TTL adapter)). My mobo has the Intel Video BIOS and would need to be edited to support 800x480. Where can one aquire the Intel BMP?

Hey, no problem.. this is why I keep all my subscribed threads..
What board did you get? And what brand BIOS is it?
And I have a copy of the Intel BMP, so chances are I could try creating a modified BIOS for you...
I would recommend getting a BIOS savior before flashing the image, though.

it's a Lippert Thunderbird with Phoenix FirstBIOS...I just realized that I'd need to reintegrate the modified Intel video BIOS into the system BIOS...not likely. Since this is an "embedded" board I might just try contacting Lippert and seeing if they could do it themselves. Another idea, this board has an on-board DVO connector. Know anything about DVO?? I did a quick search and saw that I could get a DVO->TTL adapter.

I know it kinda ruins the fun with LVDS, but you might wanna have a word with Promate and check out their LVDS interface for the same screen I'm using.

The LVDS interface is a lot smaller than the VGA controller and the downside is that you don't get all the features of the VGA board. But if you're commited to the LVDS route it might be an option.

Are you saying that if I have a board with intel extreme graphics, that I can modify the bios to make it output 800x480 to my xenarc monitor? I am one of those who has several widescreen monitors but I can't get my computers to output anything but 4:3.
More info?

Well, I was refering to the Intel Extreme Graphics with LVDS video, but I think it might be possible for VGA..
Let me dig through one of the Intel Extreme graphics video bios files I have, and I'll see what it's got.
