Arrow Telling if you've fried your display????

I have purchased a 40 X 4 LCD and i think i may have fried my KS0066 chips? Although i am not sure.

The wiring is correct (now as the suppliers one was wrong hence possible fried display). Ireceive two rows of black squares (as i should) only i receive no response from the LCD no matter what application i use!

Is this fried? or does the black squares indicate something?

From experiance, if you've got the black squres, it's not fried, nomally they're fient with clear line thru them if they're fried, trust me I've fried a few, and it takes a lot of work to cook them

Double check you've got the contrast correct, also check the software is running as you want it to.

hey buddy ...i have fried the KS0066 chip in a most stupid way ... Just by connting the Backlit power to the driver .. BOOM the KS0066 is gone in a matter of 1/2 second.. but to my luck the manufacturer of that 40x4 LCD was a Local company .. so i went to their work and made a big noise and they said some one connected the cable wrong !!
"oops! i did it again"

So i guess .. you know wat i am talking about

Heres the problem: I have a Powertip 4X40 LCD with two KS0066 chips and four KS0063 (i think) chips on it. I am absolutely positive that the wiring is right and the contrast is correct. The problem was that the manufacturer had sent me the pinout for a 4X20 char LCD and not the 4X40. I connected (stupid for not realising)the LCD as the manufacturer had reccommended and then one of the chips got really hot. I then realised and rewired it. It seems to startup normally like any normal display only, LCDprint.exe adn any other plugin within winamp doesn't work.
I have wired it using the standard 4X40 wiring diagram as (the same as the seiko ones are wired.)
If it isn't fried, then what is the problem. I can see no signs of burnt out tracks or chips.
Please help!
